Don't drive without wipers. If the fuses have been checked, you need either a wiper switch or motor. That is a job for a mechanic since it involves some complex issues. Look around, good mechanics are plentiful and don't have to be expensive if they get the fix done right.

Its not one of those silver boxes your referring too, those are relays. It will be one of the fuses under your dash. Try using a voltmeter on each side of the fuse while its still in the fuse box. If its a good fuse, current will pass through, if its bad, replace it with the same amp fuse.
If you don't have a volt meter, turn on the ignition and wipers, and bridge the two sides of the fuse with a wire. If they come on, you've located the bad fuse.
Doubtful that the motor went out.

The "silver box plug in type of fuses" are circuit breakers. They are designed to reset themselves.

If your windshield wiper motor is bad, you can most likely find a replacement at a junkyard. There usually is no easy way to fix it!

You Have To Buy A New Wiper Motor, Its Better To Do That Than Having The Wiper Motor Rebuilt. Try Ebay They Might Have One.

a mechanic could check the fuses...if it's the motor, it can be replaced...try J.C. Whitney (jcwhitney.com) for motor replacement, shouldn't be too awfully expensive...sometimes you can find a motor in a junk yard for next to nothing...$10-$15
any Ford or Mercury of the same year or size would probably do. The problem would be exchanging it if you don't know how. If you live close to a high school that has an auto shop, they might replace it for you...all you pay for is parts. Good luck

The silver box things could be circuit breakers or relays. A circuit breaker is not much bigger than a fuse. One could also be bad (you can usually replace them with a fuse temporarily-the amp rating is stamped on the little box). Since it is a Ford product, though, I suspect there is a wiring problem someplace. There could also be a bad relay or the wiper switch or a wire in the steering column could be bad. (Does it have a tilt wheel?)

The silver box plug is a relay generally for your four way flashers. You could usually replace the windshield wiper motors. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how comfortable you are doing the work. Your best bet is to go to a mechanic you trust.

You can check the circuit breakers with an ohm meter, or you can hook one end to battery +, hook the other end to a test light, and hook the test light clamp to battery - If the light lights up, the circuit breaker is OK.

you may want to try striking the motor on the end the wires go into, if one of the brushes are stuck, it may dislodge it and work for awhile.

If you can hear the motor running, the arm is off (under the cowling). Or the gear is broken in the motor.

Yes, but if you don't know how to get this far, you really should see a mechanic. You can get in real trouble messing around with things you do not understand.
