yeah it does hurt at first, just because of your teeth getting used the all pressure from the braces. but you'll get used to it and your teeth won't hurt very long because your gums will become accustomed to it all.
but there are some things you can do to reduce the pain:
take some advil, i found that advil worked the best for this certain pain
avoid hot drinks and foods, they make your gums and teeth more sensitive, therefore they make the pain seem increased
DO eat and drink cold things (yay for ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, ice cold water, etc) they dull the pain which makes everything seem better
i hope some of this helped
and just think: you'll have a lovely smile in no time!

I used to work in a dental office; even so, I'll let my 15 year old sis field this one. She says they don't hurt too much when they're putting them on. She says you can totally relax while they're putting them on; it's sort of like a cleaning. It's when they're "tightening" them that it hurts. But that'll be a later appointment.
And that's been my experience in the dental office. Most people who have them say the initial placement doesn't hurt. Just be sure to keep up with your brushing and flossings so that your gums do not become inflamed and sore; this will cut down on some of the pain when they are tightened. And the better condition your gums are in, the faster the braces "do their thing" and the sooner you will get them off!!!

You'll be sore at first. Get some Tylenol. Depending on if the braces are bonded or banded, one hurts going and the other coming off. It's not an unbearable pain and most people have a mix of these two styles on their teeth.

Well, they aren't fun! I've been having mine for a year and a half and I'm about to take them off. They hurt when you get them tightened at your monthly visits and it's uncomfortable at first when you have to get used of them. Everything gets caught in them and you have to eat certain things. To be honest with you, the only thing I haven't eaten is corn on the cob-I've become a pro at everything else. Once you get the hang of them, it's no big deal...it will be worth all the pain once you've got some straight teeth! Good LUCK!

Braces don't hurt too bad. At first, they feel tight and a few advil should take care of the discomfort. You'll get used to them eventually. About every 2 weeks, they'll be tightened again but trust me, its worth it!

It hurts a few hours after it was adjusted, but after that everything will be back to normal so soon -- until the next "pull".
Don't worry. Falling in and out of love will affect MORE on your life than this little pain.

yea, unfortunately it hurts quite alot babe, i'm sorry. I'm due to get mine off in a month & a half and the last part of the treatment has been really painful. Just take as much paracetamol as you can and suck on an icy pole (i think you guys call them popsicles) this will numb the pain.

only when you get them tightened or a new wire put on... other than that, nope. Just take tylenol. And dont take a nap right after you go to an appointment. You will wake up in the most god awful pain.
