My 21 one year old daughter's temp was 105 last January. She was talking out of her head and thinking she was dying. I went to her apartment and took her to the Emergency Room and after waiting about seven hours they diagnosed her with the flu. Anything, over 102 is definitely and indication of an illness or infection...especially in adults. Children run really high temps and you still use caution and common sense to bring the fever down, but with a high temper in an adult you need to take it seriously and get some professional help. Children run high fevers and bounce back with medication, fluids, and usually a trip to the doctor for an antibiotic. For adults it could be serious.

I highly doubt tropical had 108... infact, i know they didn't... your body can't reach that high with just the flu... you have to have some brain problems (tumor, injury, etc) in order for the thermal regulation system in you brain to allow it to get that high... you don't get that high without seizing, becoming unconscious, etc... it is a definant hospitalization for temps that high, and they are near obsolete for average people, and rare for those with brain dysfunctions... if they truely had a temp of 108, I would suggest buying a new thermometer... the one you used is broken.
