Was it the rush of using an illegal sustance? Self Hatred? Indifference towards life? Self destructive tendancies?
I recently parted ways with a friend that was using, she was destroying herself and I couldn't take it anymore.
Why did you make the choice to keep using ?
Did you ever take notice as to how it was tearing someone that loved you apart?
If so, what made you choose the addiction over those that cared?

i did not see it as choosing my addiction over who i loved, i didn't do it for self hatred, i did it because i mealy needed that feeling. the night almost died i realized that the feeling wasn't as important. i love life, always have always will. my personal experience was do in part to the fact it was there. im reading some of these answers and i wonder have you seriously been addicted, Jesus, its a mind thing, i over came, coke meth, and x in one day, i almost died, and i realized, ****, what am i doing, people believe they need the ****, once they have a severely traumatic experience they realize its not as important, that's how some ppl are able to over come addiction by going to a morgue. its a psychological thing. no one is addicted, they think they cant live with out it.

NOBODY starts out wanting to be an addict, There are many reasons why people will begin using drugs, Some become addicted to prescription medication prescribed by a doctor.
Once you become addicted to legal or illegal drugs your brain chemistry has changed and you no longer are able to think rationally as you did before, The need for the drug consumes your thinking just like the pain you feel if you are really hungry and haven't eaten in several days, You can think of nothing else until you satisfy that need.

I seriously recommend reading A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. Yeah, it's not all true but it still gives you heartbreaking insight into the mind of an addict.

My own mother chose booze over me. I don't know why. I still think maybe if I'd been a better kid...

I found it was that having someone nag me about something that I had lost control over (the first time just smoking) made me start to despise that person for trying to manipulate me into doing something that I didn't want to do (quit smoking), years later the same w. different substances.
I married a woman who wouldn't dream of telling me what to do and 21 years has gone by fast. Depends on your take on liberty I guess.

i couldnt tell you why they make the choice actually they cant tell you either i delt with it with my boyfriend for a long time and hes finally recovering and he cant even tell me. weve been together for 6years and the threat of me leaving him didnt he do a damn thing for him he just woke up one day and reliazed what he was doing to himself and now hes completely differnet.they dont know why they make the choice to keep using or to quit its alot to do with will power and your self esteem and depends on the drug you can be phiscally addicted to it and need a medication to get off.something will hit them i thought for a while it was my fault but i reliazed they are the only ones who can change them they want to theyll see themselves the right way one time goodluck dont completely give up on them tho just dont stress yourself out if your that important to them they will reliaze and maybe change wish you the best
