Okay, about 10 months ago my husband was out of town for some work training and took me with him. We couldn't afford for me to do anything but sit at the hotel all day long doing nothing. While there I noticed a momma cat and 5 kittens living under the dumpster. Looooong story short the hotel staff said some jerk thrw pregnant momma cat out of a car and she'd been under the dumpster ever since. Uncatchable. I begged my hubby to let me save them with the promise I'd find homes for ALL of them. The week we were there I caught all of them and have subsequently found homes for all but one. I found a home for the second to last one abt a month ago. I CAN'T keep the last one. I've tried to get the local no-kill shelter to take her but they are full and keep turning me away. I've contacted other nearby shelters and they refuse to answer my phone calls or emails. I keep putting hre on Freecycle and no bites. HELP!!!! I'm pregnant due in a month, plus landlord doesn't know and he's coming Fri.!

I thought I was doing good; saving it from a life of starvation and making more kittens. :( Now it's just running around my house and I'm dreading the landlord finding out because he said we could have a dog but insinuated no cats. I'm preg. so I can't stand the smell of the litter box and keep throwing up. I just want her to have a happy home where she's loved and wanted. *sigh*

I've exhausted the cat-friendly relative supply as well. And I can't put her outside. We can't afford to get her fixed and letting her out would be very irresponsible of me. I need to find her a home so they can get her fixed! If I put her outside now then my rescuing the mom and other 4 kittens would have been pointless because there would still be an unfixed cat making kittens. :(

In our area there are alot of people with coon dogs. I'll bet you can imagine they'd like a free cat to train their dogs with. :( So I have to screen people VERY carefully. That really limits my options.
Also my friends and family live 6 hours away so I don't have anyone to cat-sit while the landlord is here. Good idea though.
Thank you so much everyone for the ideas so far. I've been working on this for 10 months now so I've pretty well tried everything. :( Any more ideas anyone?

So you're saying I should have left 6 cats starving under a dumpster to reproduce and make 60 cats starving under a dumpster because I couldn't keep them forever? Yeah, that's a great idea. I'd have been an awesome example of humanity if I'd done that.

Also, the pregnancy was a surprise: I was on BIRTH CONTROL. I'm no more willing to murder my unborn child because I can't afford a kid than I am willing to let innocent animals starve under a dumpster because I can't afford it. I asked for HELP here, not to be told I'm an idiot for having a big heart and trying to help.

I applaud you for saving those kittens. You have done so much more than a lot of people would have done. It sucks that the shelters won't take them.
Perhaps your husband could talk to someone he works with and at least get someone to cat sit for a couple of days so your landlord doesn't catch you. I already have 4 dogs and 2 cats, so I cannot take on any more.
Perhaps you can talk to the people who volunteer at your local Humane Society or an employee at a pet store or pet supply store.
Some nursing homes have programs where dogs are brought in to visit with the elderly. Perhaps you could talk to the various nursing homes in your area. Perhaps the local 4H club or the girl scouts. Maybe a school who wants to teach children how to properly treat and care for animals -- NOT TO USE THEM IN SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS.
Good luck on the birth of your baby.
Thank you for making a stand and doing the right thing for the cats. Again, I applaud you.
One word of advice -- rephrase your question. "How do I get rid of this cat?" sounds bad. Try something to the effect of "How can a find a good, loving home for this cat?"

If you can afford it take out an ad announcing "free kitten" in your local paper. If not, print up some flyers and post on store's community bulletin boards or even telephone poles. If you feel safe in your neighborhood go door to door (preferably have someone with you). Good Luck and it was sure nice of you to take care of them.
By the way, hopefully you are aware of the fact that as a pregnant woman you should not clean the litter box due to the danger of toxoplasmosis exposure.
It's amazing to me that your landlord would let you have a dog but not a cat. Cat's are so much cleaner and so easy!

Put up posters all over town that you have a free cat you are willing to give away. If that doesn't work, ask around and see if ANYONE knows of a crazy cat lady who has like a million cats. If THAT doesn't work, you could always keep him as an outdoor cat in like a cage outside. Good luck wit your cat troubles!!!

I know utlmately you need a home for this cat and you have had some good suggestions on that.
Can you afford to board the cat for a day when the landlord comes?
That would relieve you of the immediate pressure.

You might be able to get a listing on Petfinder.com - if they won't let you put one in your own name, some shelters will let you list her on their site. That will reach a lot more people than Freecycle. Petfinder will also help you find local rescues who might otherwise not be listed; one of them may have an opening.
On another note, sorry to be rude but if you can't afford a cat you can't afford a kid either.

I'm sorry I don't have any ideas that you haven't tried. I do want to thank you for rescuing the cats. It's obvious that others had seen that momma cat and her kittens and done nothing. It takes courage to step up and accept responsibility for the welfare of feral cats. You did a good thing.
Good luck with your new baby!

Put up flyers and an ad in the paper. Board the kitten or ask a friend to babysit while landlord is visiting.

This is gonna sound kind of weird but it works. Find a trailer park and drop the cat off. I will guarantee that it will find a home.

Put an ad in the paper :) or just ask around. There's always a little girl or somebody somewhere who would like a little kitty.
