I've bred my bull terrier, something I've done plenty of times in the past with other dogs, but this is my first experience doubting/having trouble with the pregnancy. I have full intentions of taking her to the vet when he is back in town, but for the moment i'm on my own... I don't trust her with any other vet in my area.

She is due approximately in 1-2 weeks, her mammary glands are full and she is discharging milk. Though, her belly isn't as big as I would like to be seeing. She's normally about 35 lbs and is small for her breed. Her stud is about 45 lbs. of the same breed. In past experiences i've been able to feel puppies moving around, and during an earlier exam the technician did feel the start of the growing fetuses.. plain as day. I don't feel anything in her, moving or not.. Though I feel something high up near her ribs.. Is it possible that by her laying on her stomach, she's pushed them up too high? Or is it more likely i'm looking at false pregnancy?

It's very hard to tell for sure without an x-ray. B*tches with pseudopregnancies can show ALL the signs of a litter, including milk production and some weight gain. In my breed the pups tend to stay up high until right near the end (last 10-14 days), then suddenly everything seems to drop. My girls like to keep me guessing as long as possible. :-) It's usually the last 10 days or so when I can feel the pups moving.

It's also possible that she has only a couple of puppies. Again, an x-ray is a good idea. If she has only one puppy, primary inertia (labor not starting) is a possible problem.

At what point did the tech say he/she felt puppies? Puppies can only be palpated at or around the 21st day. After that you have to wait until about day 40-45 and x-ray as it takes that long for the bones to calcify. It's possible she only has one pup in her. You say she due in 1-2 weeks. Is she nesting? They don't usually produce milk until they are ready to welp. Has she had puppies before? You may not trust another vet but honestly if your vets office is open the technician can take a vd shot and tell you if they see puppies. OR>>> you can wait it out. Without being there no one can tell you what you are feeling. It could be a puppy, it could be her bowels. IT COULD be??? Depends on how experienced you are at palpating dogs abdomens. Good luck. Hope this answers your questions. Though I don't think I was much help.

I doubt that it is a false pregnancy. since she is discharging milk, and a tech felt the fetuses before. But.....

How long are you going to wait for your vet comes back? Are you really willing to put the lives of the puppies, and your loving pet in danger, to wait for a specific vet? I mean I understand, I have a specific vet that I love, and I only take my dogs to her for over 7 years, but if she was not available I would not risk my pet's life or her puppies, by waiting around, and I know my vet would not like me to do that either!

I have a great dane who just had false pregnancy, and she even got milk. She carried stuffed animals around, and cried alot, and you couldnt touch the stuffed animals or she would bite you. It was bad. She just stopped with all of it.

I know you dont trust any other vet but take her to one. It's better to be safe than sorry.
