Depending who you ask...

Animal world book encyclopaedia - between 2 and 50 million
World Conservation Union - between 5 and 10 million
Center for Earth and Environmental Sciences - between 30 and 50 million
Society for Conservation Biology - Between 2 and 100 million

According to the Bible Naoh didn't take every species of animal onto the ark - only the land animals so there might only have been a few million animals on his ark. I guess if he stacked them all up on top of each other in a very tall pile he might just have got them on. Mind you, the ark would have sunk with all that weight on it. Could be that the ark had massive pontoons strapped to it for floatation purposes and they forgot to mention these when writing the Bible.

Maybe Noah or Mrs Noah had a magic shrinking ray gun and reduced all the animals to minute size and when they landed switched the gun to enlarge mode and returned the animals to their proper size.

No, just a lot of exaggeration. The Noah myth is derived from more ancient sources than the Hebrews. Look up, and read the Epic of Gilgamesh. It is almost verbatim the story of Noah, with the names changed to protect the liars. By the way if the Noah story was true, you would find the following animals in the Middle East, unless they all swam home after the flood. Penguins, Pandas, Kangaroos, Koalas, Platypus and on, and on, I think you get my drift. By the way, many of these animals have specific diets. Pandas, only eat Bamboo, Koalas, only eat Eucalyptus. Noah sure got around. Does anyone with an ounce of logic believe this ancient nonsense? If you do, check the word in the middle of believe.

There are seven stages of type interior taxonomy and those are: Kingdom Phylum type Order kinfolk Genus Species The communities change into further and extra certain as you descend the record, with Kingdom encompassing many distinct organisms at the same time as Species covers merely the only. We percentage an similar Kingdom as animals, contained in the dominion Animalia. From there we commence to distinguish. for instance we are no longer interior an similar Phylum as shellfish even with both being interior an similar Kingdom. So in end, we are on the region of different animals on the dominion element, yet we are no longer an similar species. we are our own species. honestly among the numerous definitions of the word 'species': a set of genetically similar persons that are in a position to produce fertile and achievable offspring.

You guys come in all shapes and sizes don't you? The story of Noah and the Ark is a story of great faith in a time when everyone thinks God isn't real. Sound familiar? It doesn't matter if you accept it or not. It matters that you see the story for what it is. Only God knows if the words we read today were the original or not. Also I submit if man is a sinner then why do you say the Bible is untrue. It makes that point time and again. Man is not perfect. If he were, we would still be living in harmony with God. Jesus died so we could one day have that harmony back.

There are estimated to be over 50 million land species, but no-one really knows for sure. If you assume the average size is about the size of a rabbit (maybe 1/2 a cubic foot or so), you would need around 50 million cubic feet of space to house 2 each of them, assuming you simply piled them all in on top of eachother. The dimensions of the Biblical ark has 1.5 million cubic feet of volume ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noah's_Ark ), so we're off by a factor of 33 even assuming you were just going to pile them all on top of eachother. In reality, you would need probably at least 4x the body size of space for them to live in without being killed assuming they just slept the whole time and did not require additional space for food and water, so the Biblical ark is off by a factor of 150 or more even if you allow for miraculous sleeping.

why did you ask this question in the "religion and spirituality" category? Anyway Noah's ark is just a lame story in a fiction book. Get over it. Try putting 2 blue whales in a ship.

The answer to this question is - nobody knows!

Scientists who study animal life are called zoologosts. They have recorded 20,000 species of fish, 6,000 species of reptiles, 9,000 birds, 1,000 amphibians, and 15,000 species of mammals. And, although there are a million named species of insects, scientists estimate that there could be another million waiting to be discovered and named!
