Just wondering, because I recently moved to Central Florida- and no one here seems to care one way or the other about illegal immigration. They're more concerned about all the "Yankee" transplants.

So, how do illegal immigrants effect your day to day life?

Thanks for any input. Have a good night.

the responses so far should give you an indication where people stand on this issue. As you can see, for the most part; people are not concerned with the illegal immigrants around their everyday life except for those who are naturally prejudiced against any race.
All in all; the hispanics and let's be honest, those are the ones we see as illegals right? are hard workers that have chosen to come here for not a hand out but to work hard to better their lives. Some of the responses will claim that they are taxing our welfare system, education etc..... Someone mentioned a billion dollars, but heck, that amount is nothing compared to the way we all try to find ways to cheat the government out of paying taxes (especially the wealthier people and their pensions and white collar crime). No one thinks about the fact that some of these workers will never be able to collect the taxes they pay into our system because they have illegal documents; not to mention the money they spend in this economy. Of course they tax the health system, people who hire them, don't offer health benefits. They are not the only group that is in welfare and for the most part, are not the largest percentage of people who abuse the system.
Do they affect my daily live? not really; I haven't had the urge to wash cars in the hot sun lately, or work long hours in the fields or lawns or back breaking house maid work. I have not had the urge to be humiliated by another human being because of the color of my skin; or the way I talk. What affects my daily life is the bean-sized brain fools and dummies that are afraid of their own shadows because it's dark!....the ignorance that oozes out of these people makes me angry!
I can tell you this, any hispanic has a better chance to trace his heritage to this country more than any light skinned European! so next time you tell them to go back where they came from, remember where YOU came from.....you have a longer way back home!

The sheer number of illegals crossing the southern boarders of usa is numbing. The problem is that we cannot assimulate them properly....ie, there are not enough places to live, not enough room in the schools and the hospitals are overcrowded. Immigrants used to be proud to learn English and become 'American", but now they are just competing with those who are already working minimum wage jobs. This is making it more difficult for the poor Americans here because the illegals will work for less then minimum wages and thus take the jobs the poor and uneducated could do. So these poor must go on welfare because there are just so many unskilled jobs available.

I move to the midwest from the southern part of Texas many years ago,I have returned after many years and have found my city dirty and the crime rate gone up,the main street where we used to hang out on weekends is now nothing but a garbage dump, most stores are catering to the mexico people coming across and run by mexico people that can't speak the english language, they throw their garbage everywhere even though there are garbage cans a few feet away from them,it's getting hard to see where the US ends and mexico begins with so much garbage and shopping carts all over the streets.

Hi Prof. Yes, they have affected this small town, not in a positive way. They have infested this place and made it look like a dump where they tend to live and dwell. They have given the school population an all time high. They have taken jobs, not from me personally, but from the middle class here. They cause many traffic accidents and NEVER have a license or insurance. This is typical behavior for them here. One of the police officers that I spoke with at the college told me that if it weren't for illegal Mexicans here, his job would be much easier. He told me that. What the previous poster said about their kids running wild in the store, that is also true here. I don't know why, but they refuse to discipline their children. They won't watch them and let them run amok.

Well where I live people say illegal immigrants affect their lives but I don't see how it does. I honestly think, people go to far with that mumbo jumbo. I also live in Boston.

Somewhat. I live in San Diego and I work part-time in the restaurant business. Most restaurants hire illegals as cooks and makes it harder to find a job. But, it is hard to complain when they work harder than you do for less money.

I am looking for legal (lawyer) work now, and there is hardly any competition with illegals there.

As I understand it most of the immigrants in Florida are legal.

I live in Los Angeles and a huge percentage of our failing school system is either illegal or the children of illegal immigrants. They strain the schools and drain almost all of the special education budget for ESL programs. It is also considered unsafe in most of the high schools, due to gangs. I will either move or put my kids in private school (if I can scrape together funds) before they get to high school. Those who can't just have to keep their kids in rotten schools.

It costs over $1 billion a year just to provide services to illegal aliens in Los Angeles County alone.

We pay for that. It affects us.

Yes....

I live on a border town...I come across illegals everyday of my life....

Honestly, they are just PEOPLE......Working, driving, cleaning, mowing lawns, etc.....THEY bother no one.....

I truly believe there is a huge misconceptions about illegals, Mexicans and Hispanics in general...The local populous, have no problems either, they hire them to do odd jobs around the city....

I wish people would stop with all the paranoia about illegals, its just ignorance, this reminds me of the Salem witch hunts....

Well, I have to teach their children, and it's difficult to teach them becaues they don't speak English. Or, at least the parents don't. We have a lot of illegals because it's a farming community so they can find work, and the kids move a LOT so there is no consistency, no parental support, and it's really tough. I feel really bad for the kids.

Yes, everyday. I live with one, I'm friends with many, and some of my family are illegal. As for how they affect me, well, its obviously not in a bad way.
