Perhaps you should seek the aid a medical healthcare professional. He or she can direct you to over the counter and prescription medicines available that will allow you to quit smoking.

Good luck!

I smoked a pack a day for more than 40 years. I got sick, with a really sore throat. It hurt to breath, let alone smoke. After 4 days, the sore throat was nearly gone. When I went for a cigarette, I thought to myself, "it's been 4 days. I bet I can go a week". After a week, I said "I bet I can go two weeks" and so on. It's now been 19 months since I had my last cigarette. Make bets with yourself. If you absolutely have to have one, have one, and then start all over again. I didn't have to, but believe me that's not because I have any more will power than you or anyone else. I'm no superman. Just take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Good luck. By the way, yes, I still want one once in a while, although I am finding that now that it's been over a year, the smell of a cigarette actually makes me a bit ill.

I've heard that chewing bubble gum helps. It distracts by some people and their get the mind off smoking.
Just don't think about it.
You know. I've been smoking since I am 12.
I am not addicted to it tho. I just smoke now and then when I feel like to. I can take it without cigs, anytime. You just have to have a strong will and don't ever think you are addicted to, that you need it or whatever.

I'll tell ya what worked for me.....just don't pick them up again!
Wake up one morning and just don't smoke.
If you go to bed with some cigs left in your pack THROW THEM AWAY!....Don't just throw them away.....crush'em...break'em up...flush them nasty fuckerz!! Don't wake up tomorrow with smoxe in the house 'cuz you'll just smoke'em when you wake up.You'll think to yourself "Hey....don't wanna waste'em....I'll just quit tommorrow" .Then when you run out later that day you'll be jonesin' for a smoke and you'll buy another pack. And that pack will probably have a few in it when you go to bed that night. And the cycle starts all over again.
If you drink....try to abstain for a few weeks.Nothing sucks more that bein' drunk and wantin' a cig.
Find something to do with your hands.Fire up the Xbox.Play guitar.Masturbate.If you sit around bored your just gonna want to light up.
Buy chewing gum.Buy Lifesavers.Eat beef-jerky,or something low-fat to chew on.It helps if your working your jaw.
You're gonna be real bitchy for about a week, but that's OK.After a month you're gonna want to take the stairs instead of the elevator, just 'cuz ya can!
It's worth it!

You're doing a good thing for yourself.

A couple suggestions...

1) Get peppermint life savers... the kind with the hole in the middle. When you're sucking on it, draw air through the hole. It sort of simulates the feeling of drawing smoke from a cig.

2) This one sounds weird. But think of yourself as a non-smoker. First, think of someone you know who smokes. Imagine them with a cig in their hands. As you are imagining this, remind yourself that they are a smoker. Then imagine someone who doesn't smoke. As you are picturing them in your mind, remind yourself that they are not a smoker. Now do this again, this time YOU are the non-smoker. Imagine yourself, while reminding yourself that you are not a smoker.

Hang in there. A few months from now it will be behind you.

GOOD LUCK

Well, they say you should quit for yourself, but you can use your concern for others as a tool. Think it through before you light up and imagine yourself kicking yourself in the *** later or hacking up a lung or someone not kissing you because you smell like a dirty ashtray or what it might be doing to the people in the car or apt with you. Maybe the craving will pass.

I quit smoking and ways i passed tim efrom wanting to light one up i would chew a lot of gum... find something besides food to count on.. a lot of people resort to eating food and that just causes more problems.. but get some gum.. read a book.. or go running... i would go running and it helps clear you up and you wont want that need for a cig. Anyways.. those are a few things i did i also played games..(xbox..psp..ps2) if your into those... or i would clean my house. I know its hard to stop but if you wanted to go real far into getting rid of your cravings. talk to your doctor about welbutrin... its ok to go on and everytime you go for a cig they taste nasty and makes you not want them. Best of luck.

Get the patch and loose the smokes.. or you can even get the gum.. there is no need to be a hero and quit cold turkey.. the patch is a gods gift.. i had tried quitting cold turkey several times, but, it never worked.. I would quit for a while and the break down.. but with the patch.. i am free..

hang out with people who don't smoke, go to the movie theatre, eat lots of chocolate, but most of all DON'T SMOKE. it's the most important step, because if you do, you're a failure, and no one likes a failure.
