I hope this question isnt sarcastic. But look at it this way, you can eat anything you want one you become a cyclist. Cyclist being defined as actually "training." Like, if you do a high intensity ride twice a week and low 4 times with one rest day. High intensities and low intensities can be read with a heart rate monitor. Most weekday rides for cyclists are around 20 - 30 miles and weekend rides are from 40-70 miles. now, you can always train up to this level if you arent there yet. fidn some good riding buddies, and see if you can get more informed on cycling, such as the different types that may appeal to you, such as touring or racing. on top of that, i often find cycling to be a good form of physical therapy. So yes, cyclinbg is one of the best things you can do for youself and others.

In college, mountain biking for 1-2 hours per day helped me sleep and blow off stress. After college, my Bike Aura helped me hook up with the woman I married 7 years ago.

After being laid off from my previous job, cycling helped me to relax and lose 25 lbs. It keeps my hereditary high blood pressure in check, and the only time I ever see a doctor is if I go to the ER.

There is true equality in cycling. Just because someone has a $5000 bike doesn't mean they can ride it, and willpower is just as effective as physical prowess. The laws of physics apply to everyone, and it rains on the just and unjust alike.

I eat anything I want, as much as I want, though I find that bad foods make me feel ill. An overweight, diabetic friend started cycling with me; he lost over 40 lbs and his average blood sugar was lower than it had been in 10 years.

Cycling can burn over 800 Calories per hour, helps increase your cardiovascular fitness, and releases serotonin from your hypothalamus. Serotonin keeps you happy and prevents depression, and the physical exertion helps you sleep more deeply.

I have never returned from a bike ride angry, and have actually solved a lot of issues by having the time alone to think.

However, when you make the transition from "person with a bike" to full-blown "Cyclist" you will notice the detrimental effects of bicycles.

None of your friends will understand you, especially if, as a guy, you start shaving your legs.

Every year you'll tally up the money you spent on cycling and gasp.

You will have to instinctively touch every piece of carbon fiber you see.

Your family will tell you things like, "You're always riding that thing! You love that bike more than me!"

BUT- only a cyclist can understand what it's like to reach freeway speeds on two small patches of rubber, and there will be times when the entire ride is like silk gliding over soft air, and everything you do is worth it.

One of the great things about cycling as an exercise is that it offers a continuous range of effort. So an out of shape person can hop on and keep up an appropriate effort for an hour, get in better shape and then slowly increase the effort accordingly.

This is much more difficult to do in other aerobic exercise such as swimming and running, where you need a pretty good base fitness to just be able to keep exercising for an hour or so.

One great thing about bycicle riding compared to running related activites or sports is the little to no impact it provides while doing almost any kind of riding except for steep downhill. The steep downhill within itself is hardly a worry if you have a good suspension and even then its nothing like landing impact of running or running related activities like basketball, football etc.

My husband and I bike ride all the time it is very low impact and helps you get in your daily exercise. If you do it right and change the speeds (tension) you can build great muscle tone.
