It does not. There is no scripture that says Jesus was a carpenter, only that he was a carpenter's son.
But as the major of sons followed their father's into the same business, it would be reasonable to assume he did carpentry work. But it not stated anywhere in scripture.

The existence of Jesus has been proven, he was the "superhero" of his time. This is why other religions that completely denied Jesus' existence before, have had to incorporate him into their religion somehow. The tricky part about that is to prove that he was the Messiah and God's son and did all these miracles... Basically, Jesus is a historical person, religion has practically nothing to do with it. Surprisingly, religion has almost nothing to do with the Bible either. There are several research studies made about the Bible during the years (naturally), and the non-believes pretty much agree on its accuracy. These books/letters that were compiled into the bible were written for the Jewish ppl by the Jewish ppl, for encouragement and instruction during the hard times they faced. The whole book is basically written in code. If you lived as a Jewish person in that time and read one of those books, you'd know where to meet up with other people, who were your enemies and who were your friends. Like the book of Revelations is thought to be all about Nero and his hunt for Jews, and the great fire of Jerusalem or whatever. At some point in time, the Catholic church decided to just pile up a random amount of these books, and only the ones that were in line with their beliefs and such. Like the book of Mary Magdalene has been discarded completely because it showed Jesus as a normal person and her lover. This book has quite often been credited to Magdalene BUT researchers are not 100% sure that it was written by her. So, basically, these are historically correct but there's no way of proving their religious accuracy, because it's a matter of faith and belief.

Well, if you are comparing biblical times to today, then it would not be a logical step to assume that just because a father did something, then the son automatically does the same, because we do not live in that type of society.
But in ancient Israel, and other places, that was the norm. You learned how to live at home. Most of the names mean "son of (fill in the blank)" and last names told what you did. If you look at the scriptures, especially the new testament, you will see examples of this: Son of David, Son of Jonah, so on and so forth. My maiden name means a farmer of some type (I know which type, just not willing to share personal info)
So, to answer your question, it is a logical conclusion, and more than likely, that because Joseph was a carpenter, then he taught his trade to all of his sons, Jesus included.
And also, it is ok to look at historical references to explain what you see in the Bible when it comes to issues like this. You do not want to look outside the Bible to explain doctrine or things like that, but customs, laws, the land, you have to. You can not do a comprehensive, inductive study of the scriptures without also looking at books about customs, geography, history so on and so forth. When you are talking about customs of people in the Bible you have to know something about their customs to answer honestly.
I believe in God, but the answers that say "Jesus doesn't have to prove anything" and stuff like that aren't exactly well informed. It's ok to look stuff up and try to answer questions to the best of your ability.
This question may have an agenda, may be a joke, whatever. but at least I did crack the spine on a book or two and looked up a half way intelligent answer. OK, I didn't really look it up, I actually already knew the answer from a class I taught, but you get my point.

In the Bible, in Mark 6, Jesus has returned to Nazareth, and he was teaching in the synagogue. People were questioning where he got his wisdom and mark answers in Mark 6:3 ,"Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas and Simon? (KJV) Jesus answered, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relativea nd in his own house.

Jesus as a carpenter, is a metaphor for His life in helping sinners build a personal relationship with God the Father. Using the Word of God as the tools. God gave most people brains, try using the one that is theoretically located between your two ears.

The word translated as carpenter means something closer to handy man in Hebrew. Or so I'm told.

The Bible is not the only record of Jesus. Did you know that the crucifixion of Christ was one of the most documented events in history. The Romans were fanatics when it came to leaving a paper trail. That is how we know so much about their history. The Hebrews were the same way. This is what scribes would do.

We,the believers, know that Jesus obeyed his parents. I figure he at least helped his earthly father,Joseph. There
is no doubt his family was productive and honorable. His
mission was to 'build a way' for man back to the Father.
Houses, boats earthly material things did and do pass away so don't be side-tracked about things like that.

That's true. He is a carpenter's STEP-son, Maybe He was more interested in His real Dad's occupation. ;)
