how do you become a resident of a state. I am going to be moving soon and was wondering how u become a resident of a city or state?

The main thing is changing your state ID or DL. But it also depends on why you need to be a citizen. If it's for school (college) purposes, the college will tell you how long you have to have lived there. Most of the time it's a year. For most things, though, just establish residency and utlities, and of course state issued identification.

You move there and set up your utilities and things like that with your new york address. Depending on what you want to do it will take a certain amount of time to become a resident of the state. Sometimes you have to live there for up to four years.

just by moving to the state / city
rule of thumb as long as you have one bill sent to the address and at least one article of clothing you reside there. ( this was a rule of thumb for school district) I moved but still had the electric to the old place in my families name so I could still go to that school with out extra fees
If you are not a US citizen you can say you are a resident of New York but that does not make you a Citizen. resident and Citizen are 2 different things

to become a resident of New York...you have to live here for 1 year

by living there, having a house there for a period of more than 6 months, enrolling your kids in school, getting a driver's license..that kind of stuff..you dont have to apply or anything
