If you're talking about Hillsborough County;
Apparently, that's not exactly the way it went!

In Florida, the Hillsborough County School Board received a request to include a Muslims holiday along with the Christian and Jewish holidays. Rather than treat Islam equally to other religions and make Eid Al-Fitr a holiday like Christmas, the school board decided to eliminate all religious holidays. Some critics are blaming the Muslims for this rather than the real cause: anti-Muslim bigotry. [read on]

They were talking about 3 days! If ignorance (ignorance doesn't mean dumb) would hurt, health care in the US would be even worse off.

I think it should remain the Holiday Season not Christmas because as Americans we have the right to practice our own religions and feel comfortable with our decisions. For children who do not believe in Christ the celebration of another religion can be confusing and uncomfortable. The only problem here is that Santa and his reindeer represent the holidays, not necessarily Christmas, but is labeled as such, so I am not sure what they would replace it with but I think it would be a perfect time to set the stage for religious tolerance. Learn a little bit about how each culture celebrates the holidays and how. If they don't have a "Christmas season" then explain their holy day. If that is too religious then cut it all out completely and just stick to the snow and snowmen. I think it is their right to say I don't want my child learning about another religion because we don't believe it. Christians do it all the time but we aren't just a Christian nation anymore.

Where are you?
Most schools go with 'multi'. My kids have Christmas Carols, Hanukkah songs, Kwanzaa (not a religion but hey, I guess if it has a constituency...) and surely you can put in something Muslim?
I think this whole thing has gotten out of hand. Where did they think they were moving to ?

If you are in the states, then I suggest that you tell those Muslims to get over it, Christmas is a Holiday that is (still) recognized by our Government. Tell those Muslims if they don't like it they can move to a Muslim country !!! Then they won't have to see/hear/smell/ touch anything Christmas !!!!!!!

Well they can't keep kids from celebrating with classmates but I can understand if they don't want classes to be interrupted for it as that is taking away from their child's education, just as we should not interrupt classes for any holiday or religion.

um, where is this? I don't know about anywhere "banning christmas" but I could understand someone not wanting their child's education interrupted by a bunch of religious stuff. How would you like it if they interrupted your kids' classes for ramadan?
