Honey, you are a grown woman. You don't have to explain yourself to your co-workers. The sad part about life in general is that PEOPLE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT YOU REGARDLESS! You can be the best person and keep to yourself and people will still find something to say. My advice to you is that if you and this guy are "feeling" each other, do your thing. Don't worry about those women at work. I feel that if these women are married and still looking forward to flirting with these men, that sounds like a personal problem on their part, not yours. If they start talking around you, I would say "The good part about me and my friend is that we are grown and free to date, NOT MARRIED". That should shut them up. My bigger concern is that they are trying to start trouble at your job. I would stay on top of my game at work. Meaning that I would do what I am suppose to do, sign in/out when I am suppose to and just "cover my butt" in every area. You don't want to give them any more reasons to go to your boss about something. If things get worse, I would definately sit down with my boss and let him/her know the deal and what problems you are having. I think your co-workers are jealous of you period, so they are going to say something anyway. Don't let them get next to you and keep doing your job and enjoy your new friend. Once they see that what they are saying is not getting next to you, they will soon stop.

your co workers are jerks,
well, i am very sorry to say but, you can't stop rumors, but you can start some on them. Doesn't sound very nice, but if you want revenge, that's what you can do.
Second option : ignore the ladies at work, you wont work with them forever, so who cares what anybody thinks, if you like the guy, ignore those jerks, even if you don't like the guy any more than a friend, tell the ladies at work, you don't like how they're talking about you, don't speak to them, just don't let that bother you.
Good Luck, hope it works out, ☺

Have you tried talking to the manager about their behavior? That might be your only way to stop it.
