Nipple stimulation and orgasms make your uterus contract which may send you into labor. Also having your husband/baby's father c um inside of you can help too (sperm has a hormone that is similar to pitocin). For all the women who say it doesn't work, dont believe them... it just didnt work for them. If it works GREAT if not at least it was fun and there are no negative side affects, plus who knows whe youll get to do it after the baby comes!

Nothing short of going into the hospital and getting on pitocin will start your labor. Walking doesn't particularly help and you could tire yourself out and make yourself sick. Sex only softens your cervix which does not mean you will go into labor. Castor oil is disgusting and will only give you diaherra.
Think about all the times you have had sex or taken a walk or taken a bumpy car ride and not gone into labor. Why would those things suddenly make you go into labor now? People that say those things work are only expierencing coincedences. Studys have not proven any of those old wives tales to be truly effective.
I was 2 weeks late having my son and I tried all the old wives tales. None of them worked. When I finally stopped trying, he decided to come. Stubborn little thing.
As long as your doctor is not concerned about how long your pregnancy is going, just leave well enough alone. That baby won't stay in there forever and, believe it or not, you will one day miss being pregnant (especially when you are up for 3 am feedings!) Baby will come when he's ready and not a minute sooner. Just relax and enjoy that last bit of peace and quiet you'll get for a long time! :)

Honey, I'm sorry. Short of being induced, there is nothing you can do. I've tried them all, from Castor oil to nipple stimulation to membrane stripping. My mommy friends have all had the same experiences with lack of success in these old wives tales. Some will tell you that they work "if the time is right," but if the time is right, you'll go into labor anyway. Be patient, or yell at your doctor until they induce you. Those are your only sure choices. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but good luck!

Basicly the baby will come when it is ready...
How ever I have had 4 sons myself & can say that a combination of the following should start labour, IF THE TIME IS RIGHT.
Long walks,
Walking up & down stairs,
Sex - the sperm acts as a natural alturnative to the synthetic gel they use in inductions.
I do not recomend some of the old wives tales of:
Caster Oil,
Curry or hot food,
these have the tendancy of having an adverse affect when actually delivering if you get my drift...

CASTOR OIL!!!! I don't care what people say, it WORKS and its safe. Google it, you'll see. I took it with my first pregnancy and went in labour a few hours later. A good friend of mine did it with her 1st and 2nd and it worked both times. I also used Evening Primrose Oil. I pricked it with a pin and then inserted it up me and squeezed it on my cervix (it softens cervix) and then I orally took them too. Also, nipple stimulation (people say through sex) but I breastpumped. A little colostrum came out but mostly nothing. It stimulates the hormones. Either way, I've used these techniques to put myself in labor. Google castor oil and it gives you a recipe for how much/what to mix it with/etc. Good luck. If nothing works, its because baby isn't ready.

When in the same situation, I tried many things. I tried the walking thing, that just made me tired and caused the ankles to swell. The thing that sent me to the hospital was sex. I layed on my side and my husband pleasured me from behind. Labor followed some hours after wards.

Sex and lots of it. Clitoral stimulation resulting in orgasm is the best way. And it will even help strengthen your vaginal muscles. I've also hheard of a "Contraction Salad"- try googling it.

Orgasm worked for me, and I'll be doing that this time around too. It was 5 days before my due date.
