Im quite young, 21 and my liver has been giving me problems for the last couple of months. I know underage drinking is illegal and bad but ive done my fair share of it. I used to drink every weekend heavily. Some weeks i dont drink at all, others i drink 4 out of 7 days. it all varies. About a year ago i took a blood test. the results came back and some of my liver enzymes were high. I had abnormal LFTs. Doctor told me the numbers werent anything to worry aobut so i didnt retest and continue drinking. just recently i started getting pains in my lower abdonmial area, under my ribcage. I got another blood test done this morning and im still waiting on the results. Ive heard taht the liver is capable of healing if the damage isnt servere. If that is my case, which i hope it is, what steps do i need to take to ensure that. And on average how long does it take ur liver to fully recuperate. Oh What foods are good for the liver any specific diets any would recommend for nursing a poor liver.

I am sorry to tell you, but damage any organ, and it is permanent. I work in the laboratory, and I can tell you this much, LFTs can be slightly elevated for many reasons. And yes, they do come back down slightly. Damage to your liver would show quite high levels of ALT, AST, GGT and ALKP. And these will never go back to normal. Do you know what your levels were? Are you on any medications? Medications can slightly elevate LFTs. Taking you off these meds (if it can be done) can help. If you are damaging your liver due to drinking, the damage is done.
