I know it might sound a little weird that I have a bippy at this age, but I have high functioning autism, and I'm still sort of socially
and emotionally immature, in spite of having a BA degree in
Geography. And by "bippy" I mean pacifier. I have had a pacifier for the past 15 years...I had my baby bottle till I was 6 years old and I never forgot what the nipple tasted like. So when I was 15,
I got a pacifier because I thought it would be easier to hide than a bottle, but my mother still found it. She was sort of bewildered
when she first saw that I had a pacifier, but she's accepted it very well now. Problem is no matter how hard I try, I can't get rid of it!
I've tried twice and it doesn't seem to help anything. I try not to use in public, but I'll put it in my shirt pocket or something. It just makes me feel more secure, I guess. One lady I've known for
years, when I said "I can't get rid of my paci" she said of "course you can't, you're autistic." Will it hurt my teeth??

PLEASE, no criticism or downgrading!!!

It might be also helpful to note that I use a Ulti Mam pacifier (distributed by Sassy Baby Products, made in Austria) and it is orthodontic. I sometimes use Nuk pacifiers as well, but I generally like the Mam pacifiers better. I do have a few Nuks too
though. And emotionally/socially, I'm just not my age at all. I would say I'm like a 2 year old in some respects. I avoid all
news, and usually if I ever do watch TV, which is seldom, I watch kids shows like Teletubbies, Barney, Sesame Street, etc.
and Care Bears videos. I am a big Teletubbies fan, I'm also pretty obsessed
about Care Bears right now. I have high functioning autism, so I have certain talents in certain areas.....I can tell you how to get to anywhere in the USA, and I know all the oldies songs from the 1950s through the 1980s. It's like Rainman, sort of. Anyone who has autistic kids who has pacifiers for a longer time??

Thank you very much for bearing with me!

Well, replace it with something else, like a lollipop, or gum or something else like that (but not food, or cigarettes). It might help with the oral fixation. Just throw it away and don't buy anymore, that might work depending on your will power. You also might want to try your own form of aversion therapy. Put something gross and non toxic on your pacifier, and then suck on it. You may have to do it repeatedly, but eventually your body will start to associate you pacifier with the gross flavor, and you'll lose the urge for it. I just want to say that a) I am not a professional b) you may want to see someone because they will be able to help you more than we can and c) don't mind those others, they probably wet the bed or pick their noses ;)

you are certain to get many mean answers by asking this question. if you are serious than i hope you wont care about any insensitive comments. you could benefit from therapy. you tried stopping by yourself and that didnt work so there is no shame in getting professional help. there are many people with with stranger attachments than just a pacifier.

good luck

Maybe you should see a doctor rather than getting advice from people on the internet. Not to be mean, but some of them may make fun of you.

if you only use it when no one else is around then who cares? but if your taking it places with you and sucking on it at while in walmart or soemthing then you might want to see a shrink. also, remember to test it once in a while, i bad nipple is a choking hazard.
