Science - it can be proven. The carpenter is a fictional character.

I don't know, let me think about if for a moment.

Well, I tried reading Stephen Hawking's book and got just past page 10 before giving it up as hopeless gibberish. I passed all my science classes with above average grades, and enjoy a good Star Trek Next Generation movie. But I guess more importantly, I have never, not even once, applied science to my life's needs and felt more enriched because of it. The cold hard facts that they are the first to admit may or may not be factual leave me with nothing but .... facts.

On the other hand, the words of that carpenter 2000 years ago, and the words of His ancestors even further back than that have helped me every single day of my life. I find each word to be true and perfect, not just in a 'scientific' way, but in a way that reaches into my heart and changes it, makes me wiser and wealthier and more appreciative.

Soooooo, I guess the carpenter wins in my book :)

Following the words of a 2000 year old carpenter

The carpenter had some very good things to say. Many of his words were borrowed from earlier religions, but still hold truth today. People's wants and needs haven't changed all that much in 2000 years. Today we may want a new DVD player, during the carpenters time one may have wanted a new robe. People still need something to believe in.

I have my doubts about worshiping any human as God, (I have heard all the arguments for Christ's godhood, don't need any more, thanks). So why would you follow the teachings of a some carpenter who died 2000 years ago? I might follow some of his teachings, but it is illogical to follow him as God. The only proof that you have is a 2000 year old collection of books that are rife with contradictions, scientific errors, added and subtracted material, with much of it not even original but taken from other sources. Any God worth his weight in ectoplasm would find some other way to communicate his word. If the Bible is his best effort, then he is a God of confusion and certainly not worthy of worship by any intelligent being.

I'm sorry but I have a hard time believing I was a monkey. And I have a hard time believing that horses used to be the size of rabbits. Who says everything in those science books are true? After all, like another question on here says, it was written by humans? Why should we believe it? I'm with my carpenter!

I'm with the Carpenter! Will science save your grandmother from cancer?maybe but there is not a cure yet. Will God save your sick grandmother, yes with faith prayer and the will to live! And science does not go with the true facts of Jesus. Science claims that an atom blew up and in millions of years the pieces created the galaxy, one atom for each galaxy. But the real thing is that god created the universe and earth and all who walk, breathe, talk, eat, and live on it.

following the words of the Son of God who came to earth 2000 years ago; who, for a while, was a carpenter; and obeying a God who created science.

I choose Ra. Wait, no Vishnu! Wait, no Zeus! Wait, no I really believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn!

Science has the scientific method and explains most of the things religion is designed to answer. What it doesn’t have the answers to, it will eventually.

Scientific Method:
The principles and empirical processes of discovery and demonstration considered characteristic of or necessary for scientific investigation, generally involving the observation of phenomena, the formulation of a hypothesis concerning the phenomena, experimentation to demonstrate the truth or falseness of the hypothesis, and a conclusion that validates or modifies the hypothesis.

Religion:
Just take it on faith!

The following quote from Stephen F. Roberts sums up the situation very nicely:

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

Will science take you by the hand and lead you to the next level when you leave your earthly body? No? But guess what - The Carpenter will! Only if you choose to trust Him.
