The keys to improve your personal skills is to do the fundamental skills the right way.
1)Keep them in your mind at all times when you are practicing. Make sure you are doing it right, especially when you missed a ball, ask yourself what you just did wrong and then try to improve yourself by correcting your errors.
2)Most of the mediocre players always think that they are good since they know everything, maybe they do, but they never really "execute" what they may know on the courts, hence they will always be mediocre.
3)Most of the players pay less attention to defense. I am here to tell you, defense is one of the the keys to win the volleyball game. Great defense can always ruin a great offense team's day. It's very important to have a team strategy for defense and adjust as the game goes on.
4)Now here are some tips. Always stay low on defense or passing. Why stay low? When trying to dig a ball, the key is to move to where you can dig the ball before it touches the ground.
Happy learning!!

I'm guessing you're just a beginner.
All you need to do is work on:
Calling
Bumping
Setting
Bump/Set pass
Spike (not the whole spike approach to start out)
underhand serve (work on overhand when you get better)
You want to stay focused and keep moving.
If you watch a volleyball match, you notice that even when the ball is on the other side, everyone is still moving.
If you call the ball then you got the ball. Don't be afraid to go after it. Make sure to get low to get spikes and save the point.
To practice, get a parent or sibling to toss you the ball underhand and you have to bump it back to them. (Bumping is all in the knees/legs) Then get them to throw it in different directions. Practice moving quick and getting infront of the ball.
Passing is key. Practice, practice, practice.
Volleyball may seem easy but it requires work. Lots of work.
You can e-mail me if you have anymore questions or you want some more drills.
Good Luck!

Focus on passing. Not only is that "how" you play the game but that is how others want you to play the game too. Volleyball is a very social game that involves a lot of trust and interaction with your fellow players. No one likes a player who hogs a ball in volleyball. Another suggestion I have is that you learn how to hold your hands properly when the ball is passed to you. Avoid wrist injuries by learning this skill very early! I would also suggest you listen to your teacher (or coach) very carefully. He or she will suggest various practice exercises for you to do during the course of the year.

To start off practicing I would work on my passing. The thing about passing is you need to stay down low and the key for passing is to have CONTROL of the ball. Stay low means your but need to be like a chair and you need to be on the balls on your feet to be able to easily get to the ball. Then another thing you can work on is setting if you have a net or a basketballl goal. For the net you need to make sure you set it up high enough for the person you are setting it to can get up and spike or KILL the ball. To setting in the basketball goal you need to make sure you set it to the box above the hoop. To set you can use three fingers(thumb, index, middle finger) or a four fingers(thumb, index, middle, ring) The four fingers work better for me. In a game a person passing the ball to you, then you set it, and then they spik e or kill it. The next thing is hitting. If you have a net have a person throw the up the you can use a three step apporach to get a air to spike or you can use a five step apporach. To do a thre step you do right , left, eight if you are right handed and if left handed you do left ,ight , left. The five step is the same you just take five steps before you jump. On the team I play on you do bump, set ,spike to get get the ball on the other side. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS TO HAVE FUN!

Passing...you need to know how to pass; Stay low and call the ball, always be on your feet, never flat footed!! Communication is a big part in volleyball...talking to your teamates, not only knowing what your doing, but what theyre doing as well!! Good Luck...!!

Hey! I am trying out for 7th grade vollyball today!!!! I am so nervous too, but here's some ideas we had to do at camp that might help you---bump to yourself 50 times, set to yourself 50 times, slam against the wall 20 times, and serve against the wall 20 times. Hope it helps! E-mail me ilovenate2012@yahoo.com

Focus on passing. If a coach sees you passing correctly, you will immediately get playing time. In order to pass correctly, you CANNOT swing your arms. You need to bend your knees and get the power from your legs. Also, lean in to every pass. (I'm a varsity Volleyballer for my school.)
