Well this question is for the ladies to answer but let me give you from a guy's point of view.
You must understand that in the human mind, it is divided into many different sectors, like people's character, each sector in the human mind is unqiue and yet similar if all the human mind is compared together, (Excluding the physical features)
For some guys, when they have made up their mind and decieded, they will make their move and propose.
Some however are more of the romantic types, where they are saving up to make a magnificent feast and they will propose in the middle of dinner.
Some will bring you on wild ride( Example mountain climbing or other extreme sports or activities) and will propose to you if there is a chance given. However guys like this around the world are very rare. However if you get a guy like this, he is definatly more valuable then 100 10carets dimonds. For a guy personality, to do this kind of event is good.
Some are more to the exploring type, will bring you around the world. And some where in between the trip, they will propose.
Some are extremely bold, cause he could be walk with you in public shopping or doing other stuff. and out of the blue just walk in front of you and propose to you! These kinds of guys are precious as well.
The more common ones are actually shy. They will pop alot of questions in their mind, asking over and over again. Repulsively.(Though almost all guys will do that, well not repulsively at least)
I don't know about you, but this is just my opinion. If you trust my answer, I guess you should know which of the above options your boyfriend fits. =)
You can choose not to trust cause I am only 19. and not attached.
lolz
However if you have any questions you can just msg me, i will be more than happy to answer those questions.
Cheers!

You've only been going out for a year...and you are wondering why he hasn't? Plenty of people aren't ready to actually be engaged within a year of dating someone. Those that are... typically are rushing it for one reason or another. Take your time... you shouldn't be in a rush to commit... If he is truly the one for you...he will be there even if you have to wait another 5 years. The only difference is how you introduce him at parties.
Why its difficult to propose to women.
1. We dont know if the women is the "right one" for us. THIS IS A HUGE DECISION. Men typically dont "fall in love" like women do... its something that takes a lot of time.
2. We can't find a ring... trust me...we dont want to get you a ring you dont like. Perhaps you should leave pictures of rings around your place. If there are many rings on one page in a magazine..circle the one you like...or add comments like "i dont want as many small stones on it".
3. He is still shy? Perhaps a bit insecure? Um... you should know if he is...and if he is... keep telling him how much you appreciate him..and how great he is. Give him a boost so that he knows... you want him...and only him.
4. Finances. He might have different financial concerns or plans for his future. I dont want to get married and be "forced" to have a small ceremony or a quick honeymoon. I want to be able to relax and not have too many restrictions. If I am financially pressed or not where I would like to be... putting off the engagement might be necessary. This is especially true if he has a career, and might be having a heavy workload in the near future. I wouldn't want to work my *** off everyday and then have to come home to a crap load of wedding plans and their problems.
5. He isn't ready. THIS HAPPENS A LOT. Men... get um pressured by women to propose.... and most of the time we dont propose until we are ready. This shouldn't be something that we get TOLD to do...instead... we will do it when WE WANT TO. If he doesn't want to...guess what? He doesn't HAVE TO. So...sit back..and relax. When it happens..act surprised...say yes..and love your soon-to-be husband for finally making the right choice.
Good Luck
