Is there a series of standards that new believers or converts can follow that helps them to decide whether or not he/she should engage in a questionable activity (e.g., smoke, drink, dance, etc,)?

12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

While you are still new to Christianity you may be real sensitive to sin-if you feel its wrong, then don't do it. Better safe than sorry. Read the following from the book of James:

13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
James 1:12-15 (NIV)

Satan will use something to tempt you that you may like-he is real smart. he would not tempt you with something you would not do.
Try to find the book "Life In Christ: A manual for disciples", by Tony Salerno. It is published by Bethany House. It is a paper back work book that will lead you to discipleship. It is non denominational and will help you mature and be able to stand up spiritually. It cost about $15, and is well worth it.
God Bless you.

Write down what you're willing to do and what to you is officially off limits. The determine on paper, what to do if tempted or coerce by peer pressure to do the activity (i.e. will call mom to ask about it or will walk out the door and not answer the request at all). Also draw a picture of the cross on the sheet to give spiritual support. Carry the paper with you at all time and refer to it when in doubt. Once you've decided what you WILL NOT DO, the exit plan will leave no time for doubt in your mind what to do in a peer pressure situation.

Normally I would advise you to ask your Pastor, but I don't know what type of church you attend. Here are some Scriptures that speak about those things. Pray for the Holy Spirit to give you illumination on these types of subjects and choose the narrow path without going to extremes.

1 Corinthians 6:12 "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything.

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

Romans 14:21 It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble. 22 The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves.

if it is something bad that someone else wouldn't be proud that you did, why would God be proud of it? Just pray to God to give you the right judgement to do the right things and that he will give you the strength to resist evil and temptations. Read the Bible more too, that always helps. If its questionable, then don't do it.

W.W.J.D.= what would Jesus do? Well think about it, would Jesus smoke? would he drink irresponsibly? think about it. If you mess up and realize that afterwards, just ask for forgiveness and realize that you shouldn't do it. Just ask God to help you make the right decisions. We are not perfect. Just ask for forgiveness and don't do it again if you realize afterwards.

If you're not sure, don't do it!!!

Hope that helped!!! :)

That depends on first if you are an adult or child.
Second if you think something to be sin it is sin to you.
The word of God says in what ever you do,do it heartily as unto the Lord.
Now I say whatever you do, can you thank the Lord for being able to do it?
That should help.

Well now, it is important to me to always ask myself what Jesus would do in a similar circumstance. Then I do whatever the heck I want, it's my nickle after all. Oh baby bring on the smoking, drinking; and dancing; yeehaw!

Try it. If you like it, it is a sin in Christianity.

It is called Conscience. It is inside. It tells you if it's ok or not to do certain things.
