The new rules for 2005 give you an automatic 6 month extension. Most taxpayers (including individuals) have an original deadline of April 15th (or next business day following if 15th not a business day). This would put your extended deadline at October 15th.

They changed the laws in 2005. Mr. Tax Prep man is 100% correct, individuals get an automatic 6 month extension to FILE your taxes. This gives you until October 16th 2006 (October 15th is a Sunday).
Unfortunately, all your taxes were due back in April, so make sure you're all paid in. If not, do a quick estimate of what you'll owe them and mail them the check right away, because you're paying interest on that money until you pay it.

The extension proper is for 3 months if I remember correctly, but really it is until they come get you. I'm 3 years behind, but the whole deal is do you owe them or do they owe you ? and how much ?
