Life has become less active. People don't walk anywhere anymore... daily little bits of energy we had to expend doing things like walking into the pharmacy, the bank, walking across the street, scrubbing the floors, taking stairs, have all been replaced by technology which allows us to not have to walk, climb, or scrub on our hands and knees. Also, in many places in America (thanks to the auto industries lobby groups), city planning has made it dangerous and illegal even in some areas to cross certain intersections and streets, such that you'd have to take a care, even if it was just to cross the street. It is so sad.

I truly believe that, yes, the diet has changed too, but not so drastically from the days when people were more active. I believe it's more of the activity that is why people have become so fat, and I think that people are also too stressed out, lazy, or just drained of energy to force themselves to set aside time to exercise in order to make up for all of the little things that would have kept them active which they no longer do.

If everyone just took stairs instead of elevators or escalators and walked somewhere briskly instead of driving, that alone would keep people at a normal weight for the most part.

No, we are fatter because of technology and the fact that our lives don't require a lot of exercise. Think about it, we spend more time on the computer, which does not burn any calories. We also drive, no calories burned, we sit in school, or sit at our jobs, we have movies that gets delivered to our homes, we have made our lives so comfortable that we don't burn as much fat as we did in the past. Also we are more stressed out than ever, and stress without exercise=fat.

if your unconsciously preparing.....does that mean we are preparing while we are asleep? I think you mean subconsciously. I think people are getting fatter cause of sodas, french fries, grease, cars, lazyness, etc. etc. etc. I am not getting fatter......but I move during the day. ever notice when your driving down the road and see a fat person next to you, they are eating something. people just can not control urges to stuff their gulletts with junk. replace soda with water, cheese burgers with chicken, and fries with carrots........and put the chocolate away for special occasions.

lol i don't think that is quite it but good theory. i think people are getting fatter because of all the new technology we have like computers, tv, video games, and cars. nobody really goes outside to excersise anymore and we eat a lot of junk that tastes really good but its really really bad for us.

Maybe its because of all the technology that our society has developed. Like cars for instance. Now we use cars instead of walking and exercising.
