do you know how long can you keep the beer in a keg?

Using Co2 it will stay fresh 30-45 days. If you are using a standard pump type tap it varies as to the temp it has been kept. Once air is introduced into the keg, bacteria begins to form. The cooler the beer, the slower it grows. You will most likely notice a taste difference within 2-3 days. Hope this helps. Kegerator is the way to go - fresh beer for over a month.

For higher alcohol beers (above 9%), you can keep them in an untapped, properly sealed keg indefinitely. I know of some one who forgot about a keg of scotch ale for 6 years. (Put it in the back of his garage and then piled stuff in front of it). However, anything that is below a 6% ABV should be drank within 6 months, and even then, at the end of the six months, it won't be as good as it was when it was fresh. For beers that are between the 6-9%, it is not recommended to keep them for more than a year.

If the keg is tapped, I would drink any beer in it within the next three months, if possible.

Depending on the beer and how cold you store, you can keep it for months, if not years, if you keep it pressurized with CO2. Using a handpump to keep it pressurized will kill the keg pretty quickly.

For someone who loves beer? A kegerator and the wherewithall to brew a Newcastle nut brown ale. (If you don't mind creating a monster.) Or skip the kegerator (you can store a few bottles in the refrigerator).

If you have a C02 tank, forever. If not no more than a couple of days.
