Cats can develop allergies to certain foods over time. Most cat foods are made from chicken sources and corn. I think you must try a premium food with a single protein source and a carbohyrate other than corn.

CA Natural is chicken and rice. Natural Balance has a venison and pea. They have a duck too I believe, I don't know what the carbohydrate is in that. These are both good brands. The meat sources are "human grade" and have not been fed hormones or antibiotics and the additonal ingredients are not likely to cause stomach upset.

Introducing the new food is important. You should take at least three weeks. First week to 10 days 3/4 old food, 1/4 new. Mix up this "recipe" in a large plastic container. Next you go to 50% old, 50% new for the next week to ten days. Then you go to 3/4 new to 1/4 old. The cat will not turn up her nose is you follow this protocol.

Then you may want to try another food -- the venison or duck. I would rotate the chicken, venison and duck for her future diet so she will not develop any allergies.

You may find that just cutting out the corn will stop the vomiting. You have to play around with it a little bit.

My cat was 19 and did the same thing. It means that she has a lot of hair in her stomach that she is not able to get out. The older a cat is, the harder it is for them to throw it up. She never goes long without food or water because she throws it up. There's nothing really that you can do except give her small amount of food at a time. I gave my cat half a can of fancy feast mixed with half a can of warm water, because fancy feast is a smaller can. More expensive (50 cents a can), but smaller. You can talk to your vet and see what he has to say about it if you want.

depending on the age of your cat, you may not want to give it a hairball remedy without talking to your vet first. if the cat is over 10 years, it may be too harsh on the intestines.

Is there a mass that looks like it could be hair wadded up? If so this is quite normal as cats groom, [lick], themselves a lot and then regurgitate the hair with some of whatever else is in their stomachs.
However, if this is an older cat, it should most likely be taken to the vet. How old is it? When was the last time it had a check-up?
When we changed from cheaper foods, even Fancy Feast, to Iams. our kitties up-chucked much less. Like our vet says, your cats will be healthier and live longer if you give them healthier food. BTW, Meow Mix sucks.

well what does she throw up, if it looks like hairy hot dogs, it is hairballs,,,,,,,,, also changing a kitties food can make them throw up and or have diarehha, try giving her a little of her dry or wet, most cats do not gorge themselves they know when to stop eating, but my piglet margaret the second will just eat and eat if i do not take it away from her,, then she startes throwing up, it could also be she has a digestive tract problem, she may have swallowed some string or thread, when cats throw up it is usually to purge something out and that is a good thing, but if nothing is coming out and feeding her less and she still throwsup take her to the vet. eme when you know what is going on at iadorecats1955@netscape.com

Not enough details to answer. If this has been consistent, it might be normal for your cat, as some of them have "icky stomachs". HOwever, if this is new behavior and she's throwing up a lot (i.e. many times per day) she needs to see a vet ASAP. It could be indicative of stomach/digestive problems all the way up to cancer. Unless it's something that's been "normal" up to now, it's an indicator to you that she needs to see a doctor, and soon! You don't want to wait on this because if it is an illness, sometimes it moves fast, so you need to move faster!

Good luck to you and your poor baby!

My cat had the same problem a few years ago. It turned out that she had food allergies and needed a special prescription food. She didn't always have this allergy, it came on when she was about 7 years old.

You don't want her to get dehydrated, so if it's been more than a few days, you should call your vet.

Good luck and hope she feels better!

You could try giving your cat a pro biotic or acidopholis periodically. Just make sure that the ones you purchase are located in the refrigerated section of the health food store.

She may have hairballs from constant grooming. Try a little tuna oil with her food. It may also be another reason and the hairballs a secondary problem. Call a vet and get advice is the best advice I can give you.

My sister had the same problem with her cat. she took it to the vet a few times tried all kinds of medicine nothing helped. You could try the Iams cat food, that helped a little but that was about it. Nothing completly helped.

you mentioned your cat is older maybe he/she is sick if this is happenning to often I would consider going to the vet!

As far as the food. Try monitoring the intake of feed. Cats tend to eat way too much and then in turn throw up from this. Are you sure it is throwup? or is it hairballs?

Good LUck to you and your Kitty!
