i am throwing a shower next month and just sent invites out.
i got a list from the bride of whom she wanted to invite. some were from far away, but you should keep in mind, the bride may want to invite them, even if they can't come since these are people close to her that she wants to know she cares enough about to want them at her shower.

If it is a close friend or relative, yes send them an invitation. Just because they can't attend the shower doesn't mean they shouldn't receive an invite. What if they want to send a present in their absence?

Usually the invites to a shower are for very close friends & family.
If these out-of-town people are sending or bringing a gift & planning to travel any distance to the wedding, then I would not think it appropriate to inform them of the shower.

If they have to take a plane to get to the shower, then no. If they are relatives and/or within an hour or two drive of the shower, then yes.

It's a nice touch and if there are a lot of family from out of town they will appreciate it. They may not attend but they will appreciate it.

If they are really close to you and you want them there yes. Also depends how far they are from you, if they live more than an hour away then it depends on them.

If you are close to them (personally) otherwise don't. If you already have them coming to the wedding that should be more than enough.
