Originally a nickname for a blonde (it means "white" in French), Blanche was extremely popular a century ago, and some upscale parents are beginning to look at it again as a more plainspoken alternative to Bianca. BLANCHETTE is another more feminine, French version.

It's a variation on Blanche, which is a French name, with it's base word meaning "white".

Well, blanche has something to do with the color white. So, my guess would be that the last name has something to do with white. Maybe pure white or as white as....
that is what I am getting.
