What happens when a midshaft bearing goes bad, is the gear stack can move, which can cause rounding of the gear corners as they engauge. This will eventually lead to transmission failure (often the gears start "kicking out" and it will eventually be impossible to get the vehicle into gear, as it will slip out right as pressure is applied. If its broken... then all the above could happen very quickly or it may be that it all seizes.

The throw out bearing is part of the clutch. It allows the clutch input shaft to spin around it. Not sure what major problems this could cause except the clutch not working, but the midshaft bearing is a definite issue. Midshaft bearing requires a rebuild of the tranny.

The midshaft bearing is also known as the carrier bearing. It is in the middle of the drive shaft. When it's broken the car doesn't move. The Throw (out) Bearing is in the clutch. When it goes out the clutch doesn't work any more.
