TheDCR-DVD405 IS 1 STEP BELOW THE DCR-DVD505; THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BESIDES MEGAPIX/PRICE IS THE TYPE OF IMAGING RESOLUTION. 405 USES ADVANCED HAD CCD IMAGER & 505 USES CLEAR VID CMOS SENSOR. What does these two mean anyways? Which is higher quality and is it worth paying $130 more for the 505, which has the clear vid sensor? Please advise.

Go for the 405 it is well worth the money and the additional price for the 505 is really for the larger LCD screen and higher megapixels, overall that's it. I researched them both for a while and decided on the 405 and love it! Check out this review, it will answer all of your questions.

do they both have 5.1 audio?
how about zoom-mic accessory compatibility?
sound is important, too...

both have a camrea flash/video lamp? pics are worthless without...

what about accessory compatibility? accessories are important.

CMOS sensor is better that a shared CCD (charged coupler device). less color bleed, better detail.

pay the extra money. you won't regret it. buy the accessories (bad, tripod, uv/haze filter, EXTRA BATTERIES-several short ones , long life batteries take too long to charge, extra dvd's, car battery charger/ac adaptor, amd most important....buy the service/maintenance contract!!!!!!)

AUTHORIZED camcorder techs get paid at least $80-$120 hourly to fix, always use new parts, you pay shipping.....the one time service contract is more economical. most contracts warranty original batteries, too
