8-12 hours some adults differ and can function with less sleep and yes sleeping to much can make u tired

The recommended amount of sleep is 7-8 hours per night. Sleeping too long might not make you more tired the next day, but it may keep you from falling a sleep the next night and allowing you to only get 5-6 hours of sleep, which in turn will cause you to be tired/exhausted the next day. If you constantly get 7-8 hours every night your body will adjust to it instead of 5 hours here, 10 hours there, etc...

From what I've read, the average adult needs 7-8 hours of good sleep, meaning straight through the night without interruption. As far as being tired during the day from sleeping too much, I believe that could be true. Our bodies tend to work in circadian rhythms, and if you knock yourself off of that rhythm, the body is going to react. Think of jet lag as an example.

Most adults don't get enough sleep. Studies have shown that the average adult needs between 5-9 hours of good quality sleep per night. Some people need even more than that.

It all depends on what your particular need is. But if you don't get enough, then you develop what's called a "sleep debt". And it's a debt you must repay or your body will suffer; sometimes greatly.

Here's a good general article on sleep:

8 hours is said to be good, I feel better with 9. Not me, but if I sleep too much in the day, I have trouble going to sleep that night.

It can vary by person, but generally 7-8 hrs is recommended. And, no getting "too much" sleep will not make you tired during the day...in fact, I believe it's physically impossible to get too much sleep.

Also, there are a bunch of side benefits to getting more sleep (besides the obvious of alertness, intelligence & mood). More sleep will also improve your skin and help you lose weight.
