After owning several excellent dogs I wound up with a Belgium sheepdog he is the best dog I have ever owned. Belgium's come in four varieties: Groenendael. Malinois. Tervuren and Lakenois. They are at least as smart as border collies and loyal beyond belief. Police use the Malinois because they look allot like a Shepard, but have stronger hips, and are absolutely fearless (Shepards are scared easily, and that is when they have trouble with un intended biting of people. definitely check out Belgium sheepdogs.

If you're looking for a family dog and have kids, the best breeds are the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever.
They're both very intelligent and loyal and are great with kids.
If you're looking for a guard dog, go with a German Shepard.
Again, very smart and extremely loyal.

small dog-miniature schnauzer. A real smart dog. Good temperment. Won't bite a stranger but will bark like crazy until "friend" is confirmed. Don't shed at all.
big dog- lab. A big pillow. Friendly. Will fill your house with hair though. Also good temperment. Needs room to run.

I like the medium size terrier type dogs like miniature schnauzers, jack russels, and irish terriers. They all have their quirks though, schnauzers (at least the ones I've had) will bite the s**t out of you if provoked.
jack russels are high energy and constantly need attention "or else"
Irish terriers are awesome dogs that are great with kids, but need close supervision around other dogs.

actually it depends on you...if you take care of any dog ,they can become really good pets,
we have 1 golden retriever, 2 black lab puppies,1 great pyreneese,1 small min dauschound,
weve had a jack russell and a cream chow that was totally awesome, if you raise them with love almost any pet you choose will be fine..i just don't suggest rots.pit bulls

German Shepherds. They are great, well rounded dogs. Great with kids, really smart, good guard dogs, killer frisbee dogs. Just train them right in the beginning, and you will have a best friend for life.

Well Great Danes are the best ... they're huge and they're really good guard dogs, Akita's are also big and great guard dogs, another big dog is a bullmasta (sp) it sounds exactly how it's spelled, and like Great Danes they're huge and good protectors!

I am getting a Chihuahua and they are my favorite kind of small/tiny dog. My favorite medium sized dog is a Jack Russel Terrier. My favorite kind of big dog is a Golden Retriever.

It really depends on your opinion of dogs on how they look and also what you want the dog for. Personally, I love both my golden lab/retriever pup just as much as my mutt terrier, yet small dogs really small dogs like chuahua (or however you spell it) annoy the crap outta me. All personal opinion.

Golden Retreavers are awesome! they are very easily trained and they are very intelligent! they have a very nice disposition. They have a lot of energy but at the same time love to be cuddled and love to rest. Awesome dogs!
