Depends if she likes reading then you can get her a grown up book.
If she doesn't like reading then it is just a junk for her.
14 year old girls now a days want ipods, cellphones, jewlery e.t.c
But I wouldn't get any of these things myself.
How about a nice Parker Ink Pen w/ inspiring birthday card and a personal diary?
Watch?
If nothing else work a gift card to a good store "Bed and beyond" or barnes and nobels

some are...
well, take it from a 14 year old...
if you want to get books,
find out what genre she likes, girls
like books they can really cry on...
for example, "a child called it"
or scary books or funny.
umm, i'll get back to you w/ more gift ideas.
gift cards or money is always nice because then she'll pick what she wants but sometimes, girls like hand picked out things that shows you're thinking.
if she's creative, kits are always fun, for me anyways...especially sewing pillows!! and gimp.
if she's athletic, you could get her a...bike?
my uncle once made a bike for me, and that was when i was 8 i use it till today!
tickets to a concert she likes is GREAT or even the amusement park!!! thats ALWAYS fun....maybe even movies or something, or a blockbuster card!!
also electronics, ex. ipod, cell phone, mp3 player type things, the cool mini dvd player w/ screen thats portable.
if i can think of anything else i'll let you know...
by the way, when is her birthday? cause it really depends on the season...

A Cell Phone And cash will probably go over better than a book, teenagers nowaday are more into electronics and money.

The best thing to get for birthdays ranging 12 years and up is money or gift cards to favorite haunts.

your best bet will be go to abercrombie and fitch, hollister, american eagle, and get her a 50 dollar giftcard, or write a check and let her buy what she wants, thats what i liek to get, espeacially when its a blank check

Yes, they are reading.
Get her a book that will open her mind and not a book she will put on a shelf and never read.
Think about what she likes and choose accordingly.

if she likes fantasy I would get her the amulet of Samarkand. if she likes horror get her one of Stephen King's books if she likes vampires get her Cirque du freak if she likes history and the holocaust get her night. and yes 14 year olds are reading some are even obsessed with it. but maybe you should ask her if she likes books first.

Get her a bible with her name inscribed (she'll keep it forever). I would also get her a gift card to a music shop so that she could choose a cd to her liking.
