I have had two yellow labs for five years now. They sleep outside. New neighbors just moved in about two months ago. They complained to the city about the dogs keeping her up all night. Which they dont. If they do see people or another animal, they will bark but it wont be all night long. So the city gave me five days to get muzzles or they would take the dogs. Now she video tapes the dogs and takes pictures of them. She has done nothing but cause problems. We have never had any complaints until she moved in. She has called me and my husband names and shines bright lights on us when we are outside. We put a spot light. and now she put balloons right by it along with windmills. I dont know what do anymore with this person!!!!

What a b****!!!! Try calling the police & telling them you are being harrassed by your neighbors. See if that might get something done. She sounds like a real jewel! You have my sympathies! Fight back, get a lawyer if you have to. Don't let her bully you & your dogs around like that! Good luck sweetie!

Get your dogs inside at night if at all possible. This will prove that you are trying to do the right thing. She could still complain about the noise even if they are inside. Make sure you make note of every night that you bring the dogs in so that she can't claim your dogs were outside.

Check your local statutes and see if you have a chance to appeal the police's decision to take the dogs if it should come to that. If you will have an appeal chance, start gathering evidence including statements from your other neighbors about how the dogs do not bother them and records of everything this woman does regarding your dogs. Take pictures too. Write everything down. If she taunts them or throws things at them or yells at them or does anything that might cause them to bark more at her, make a note. Then you can point out in court that she is aggrivating the situation.

She either doesn't have any patience with animals or she just likes picking fights with her neighbors. You might check with your other neighbors and see if she is causing problems for them about anything else. Then you can all watch for her to do something like let her grass get too long and then sic the cops on her! :)

I have to say that if you are a responsible pet owner, you MUST bring them in at night as a courtesy to your neighbors.

I have 3 dogs. The noise ordinance in my area is from 11p - 6 a. When we moved here, I didn't know and the dogs were out past 11. We were informed by the neighbor of the ordinance. If they have to go out to do their business after 11, I always accompany them.

Honestly, I do not think it is fair to the neighbors. I know if they had dogs barking all night, I would be annoyed. During the day, although it is annoying, I don't care if mine or any other ones bark.

ask the othere neighbors if they have any problems with your dogs if they don't have them sign a paper stateing that your dogs are causeing no harm to them and are not desterbing the peace if you get enough ppl to say the dogs are no problem then they will look at it as she is the problem and she can not video tape on your property with out your permission its invadeing personal privasy you can also put up a wooden fence so they cant see out and the ppl cant see in but till then take them inside at night or put them in a grage or a muzzle for time being then ask the lady what the hell her problem is and why is she trying to cause problems one of two things she could be one of those ppl who think keeping a animal outside is wrong or she could be one of those ppl who just dont like dogs

As far as the dogs barking and keeping her up all night, if you really don't believe they are doing this then why get worked up over the video tapes? If the dog's aren't doing this then she is video taping thin air, right?

However, by video taping without your permission it is called an invasion of privacy, stalking, harrasment and a variety of other charges. So, press charges of your own. I guarantee one call to the police with their threat to her of jail time or a fine, she'll stop.

I can't believe the city suggested muzzling all night. That IS animal cruelty and you could be charged for that. Duh. I figured even the dumbest of state officials would know this.

I second the idea of crating them indoors or putting them in the garage.

Try suing her for invasion of privacy, and take pictures and videos of her when she is of you so you can prove it. Also call a Private Detective to see if they can help too. But be prepared because this takes money. Also a privacy fence that is about 8 feet tall will help almost as much. But if you don't want to do these then you may have to move. People can be real jerks. Especially some of the people I share this country with. I served in the military to give everyone their freedom, but many times I wish I could choose who got to be and stay American. I would love to send the haters and racists all to some other place. But I can't and so will let God handle them when the time for that comes. After all that is what He asks us to do. And despite their behavior I try to love and pray for them too.

Also jw349 your comments are true to your ignorant nature concerning animals. Do some research, and take your activism to some other site. I have, and love my dogs. They are not happy inside and prefer to stay outside, but I bring them in when the weather warrants it. God didn't create animals to live in a house. Would you bring in cows if you owned them? Don't speak about that which you don't understand.

It is a pain with big dogs to have them in the house, I know I have two shepherds and a husky, and they always sleep indoors. If I get up in the middle of night, it's a guessing game and many times I lose as far as tripping over one of them; however, I've never had to deal with the threat of losing them. If you absolutely can not bring them inside, get a barking collar for them - there are some that spray citronella instead of shock, to me that would be better than a muzzle.

Good Luck!

well...you cant muzzel a dog for more than 20 mins or something like that. Its called animal cruelty

If she has been taking pics and such...call the police and complain....this is against the law in most states to take random pics of other people's property for no reason.

Get some crates and allow them to sleep inside. This way if she still complains then you cannot have them taken away because they are barking in your house and not disturbing her.

oh yes...btw...shining lights on you and calling names is harassment....you can sue!!!

You have my utmost sympathy. Nobody needs neighbors like that. My suggestion would be to let the dogs sleep in the house. At least that would remove her major complaint. Did she talk to you about it first?..or go straight to the city? If it only took her 2 months to complain to the city, she sounds like a real pain in the butt.
Good luck.

Call the police on them. I had a neighbor that complained because she did not like the breed of my dog. Keep your dogs inside for awhile until it calms down. When they shine the light I would call the police. Be more of a nuisance. And ew how do you know she is not taking pictures of you guys. CALL THE POLICE.
