Frankly, online dating has about the same success rate as regular dating does. People always say, "be careful" and "it's so easy for people to lie". It's easy for people to lie IRL, too. The only thing they can't lie about is their looks, since you probably met them first if dating IRL. You need to "be careful" when meeting someone in person as well...ask Lacy Peterson and the countless other women and even men who have been taken advantage of by someone they thought they trusted/loved but didn't meet online. Just keep your expectations and your emotions in check, like any other dating scenario, and it'll be okay. I have been on dates with guys I met in dating sites, and I haven't had a scary experience yet. Of course, I'm no dummy about meeting them, and I tell them about as much as I tell any other guy I just met: very little.

Yes it can work. My husband and I met through a dating service in 1996. We have been married since 1998. It's like any other relationship but better. At least you get to tell each other what you want up front in a profile. A person who would lie on their profile is the same person who would lie if you met them in a club. Hope this was helpful.

Yep, definitely works. Met my wife that way. course, met about 20 women that didn't end up being My wife, but made for fun dates at least.

Rule one - don't promise anything you can't deliver

Rule two - Expect them to lie through their teeth and insist on seeing them live on a webcam before meeting them.

Well we all are strangers when we meet, so meeting online, is no different.
What is different, is that you aren't seeing them in person, and can see their body language etc.
If the are telling the truth about themselves, and you meet in person, then, it has the same chance of working out, as do all the other meetings.
