A Miniature Schnauzer is 12"-14" at the shoulder. The toy Schnauzer isn't recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club, although some breeders try to produce Miniature Schnauzers that are under 10 inches, and they call them "Toy Schnauzers". Standard (17"-20") and Giant (23"-28") Schnauzers are also recognized by the AKC.

We have a mini schnauzer named Seepy. To summarize Seepy, I would say 16 pounds of trouble. He has even a more unique personality than some humans. He always runs up to people he knows, sits, and starts hitting them with his paw until they shake it and say, "It's nice to meet you, Sir." He knows the names of all his toys, and if you say one, he runs and gets it. All the local animals tease him by running away when he chases, and when he's on his leash, they sit just outside where he can't get them. Seepy has recently been unattaching our drain pipes to get the chip munks. He sleeps in the botton shelf of our linen closet, which is full of blankets and pillow, and we refer to it as his cave. During storms and fireworks, he starts shaking and has to try to hide under something. He winds up in really weird places. He does bark a lot though and is very very high maintenance. He demands constant attention, he enjoys peeing in the house, even though he knows its wrong. He does that just to spite us, and when we yell at him, he refuses to go near his own pee. Also, he has a favorite toy we call his Sheepy, and whenever someone he doesn't know comes to the door, he grabs his Sheepy and keeps it in his mouth to protect it until the person leaves. For all the trouble and strangeness, I love the little guy though!

I have a reg. Schnauzer named Zoe. She is the best. I'm thinking of getting a Mini to be a companion to her.

There is just something about a schnauzer.
I'm not sure if it is their devotion to their guardians, the schnauzer attitude, or just that they are fiercely protective of their people.
For me it's all the above, and their good looks!!
This is Toby, he's helping me type this...
