why dont ppl look at nuns differently?

When a western women stays at home to look after her house and kids she is respected because of sacrificing herself and doing good for the household? But when a Muslim woman does so by her will, they say, "she needs to be liberated"! Any girl can go to university wearing what she wills and have her rights and freedom? But when Muslim woman wears a Hijab they prevent her from entering her university!
When a child dedicates himself to a subject he has potentials. But when he dedicates himself to Islam he is considered hopeless!
When a Christian or a Jew kills someone his religion is not mentioned, but when Muslim is accused for a crime didn’t commit, it is Islam that goes to trial! When someone sacrifices himself to keep others alive, he is noble and all respectful. But when a Palestinian does that to save his son from being killed, his brother's arm being broken, his mother being raped, his home being destroyed, and his mosque being violated -- He gets the title of a terrorist! Why? Because he is a Muslim! Whenever there is a trouble we try to find and solution to it and generally accept any solution? But if the solution lies in Islam, we refuse to take a look at it. When someone else drives a car in a bad way no one blames him. But when any Muslim makes the same mistake - people say "Islam is the reason"! Without looking to the traditions of Islam, people believe what the newspapers say. But question is what the Quran says!

I don't really care what people wear, but none of us is really free to wear what we like , we have to dress within certain limits, I'm not sure why. If you go outside the limits you will get abused and punished one way or another, where ever you are.
It does seem that in SOME Muslim countries the limits are very strict, and the penalties very severe. To me that's not right.
But then they do not put freedom so highly and place seemliness and sisterhood more highly than westerners tend to. Not so competitive.
I think NUNs are worse than Muslims, because a Muslim might just be following her culture and might think that it makes life easy and simple when she goes out, but a nun is really brain washed, and is in her habit all the time, and she can't marry or have children or live a normal life. Of course she may be happy, .I don't really object, if its what she wants.
If I was a woman in a Muslim country I would probably conform, but I really don't think its worth fighting over one way or another. Women in UK do not have to conform. Some of the Islamic fashions are lovely, and very flattering to the female form, in all its infinite variations. But if they chose to dress in complete black and covered up, that's OK by me.

I see alot of ppl flaming, and actually, there is a choice 4 a muslim woman. The reason 4 a hijab (veil) is 2 keep modesty and not stand out too much. In the US and other places like that, a ponytail is fine. I'm a guy, so I asked alot of women on Islamic forums if they wanted 2 wear a hijab and cover up or were forced to do it, and they all said they liked it. All of them. I think I made my point. Unfortunately, the current situation in most Islamic countries is that the ppl in charge are hijacking Islam and misinterpreting the Quran/hadith on purpose. There R also regional traditions that R being added in.

No offense but have you any idea how many times people have asked this question already? I'm sure that when you typed it, you noticed that several other questions about nuns and Muslim women appeared, but no, you chose to ignore them and typed your question anyways, didn't you.
Well, there is no difference, both nuns and most muslim women CHOOSE to be covered up. The only exception is that some muslim women don't want to be covered up under punishment penalty like the taliban did. G-d forbid what would happen to them if they didn't wear a burk-ah, now THOSE women were oppressed. No police is going to arrest a nun for not wearing her habit, like they would in Saudi Arabia, how about my sister in law who went to Egypt, her hair was not covered so people threw things at her. Oh, no they're not oppressed at all.

I hope to be a nun someday. And when I am, I will happily wear the habit. the habit is the wedding dress that a sister wears in her marriage to christ. and it's so wonderful to be able to wear your wedding dress every day! It serves as a reminder of what the nun is doing, and who she is serving! It also is a reminder of purity, modesty, and humbleness for the nun.

A nun chooses that life and garb, a muslim woman usually does not choose it and would be stoned to death if she opted to dress differently. I do know of recovering catholic groups, and some nuns who have left their orders without being stoned to death.

In multicultural socities Muslim women dress how they want (often this is in a traditional manner).
In Arab cultures women dress how women dress - to explain they dress how their mothers, sisters, friends, and daughters dress it is not only religious law but convention. It's no more of a restriction to them than it is for me not being allowed to dress in garments designed to expose my genitals. Islamic traditional dress is the social norm here.

Nuns choose to dress in a specifc way in defiance of social norms to celebrate their faith - this is the same as western Muslim woman dressing in traditional Islamic style - not socially nessecary but done as a choice of faith.

I would imagine that it is because nuns choose to accept the lifestyle that includes that dress, whereas many (not all) muslim women are born into it, thereby having no choice.

Muslim woman's dress is very attractive and feminine. If Muslim woman choose to dress that way I think it is fine.
