Compacts----Olympus stylus 500 or Kodak EasyShare Dx Series---- both have longer than usual battery life, 5 and 6 mgpixils correspondingly.
Sub compacts----Canon SureShot Sd300 series, 4 mgpixils
Advanced Compacts-- Fugifilm FinePix E 500 series, 6 mgpixils
Superzoom-----Panasonic DMC LZ5S - 6x opt and 4x digital zoom. Plus audio / video capability, 6 mgpixils
Buy for $226.00 at amazon.... and others including free shipping. All these cameras can be bought for less than $300.00, ,just do some internet shopping and look for free shipping. Try Amazon, or Biz-rate under digital cameras or specific brands and models

That would be the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2. This is the older model of the Sony's ultrazoom camera, the DSC-H5:

What's the difference? The H5 is 7 megapixels instead of 6 and has a nicer screen on the back. It also costs about $150 more.
I think this is the best price online currently for the H2.

I got a big $400 Fuji on the Sears website for $200. Check places such as Sears or Ritz camera for last years models and you should be able to get a good deal.
DO NOT buy a Sony. Bought one for my daughter and it broke twice in the first year.

If you don't care about picture quality, it doesn't really matter as anything will take a picture. Go for the highest pixels and then the best brand. I have had extremely good luck with Canon and highly recommend their products.

You've got lots of options depending on what you plan on using the camera for. Here's my recommendations, I'm a big fan of Kodak cameras:
Here's the most "stylish" of the group if you're looking for form factor:
Kodak V603: 6MP, 3x Optical zoom, $299. Pros: Small size (like a deck of cards), comes in several colors, easy use, large 2.5" LCD, Kodak color and quality, lots of megapixels. Cons: less zoom than others, but enough to get by.
Others:
Kodak Z650: 6MP, 10x Optical zoom, $299. Pros: Great zoom, easy use, Kodak color and quality, lots of megapixels. Cons: While not "bulky" it won't quite fit in your pocket.
Kodak C875: 8MP, 5x Optical zoom, $299. Pros: Super high megapixels, easy use, Kodak color and quality. Cons: lacks some more advanced / manual features, but most people wouldn't notice.
Kodak Easyshare ONE: 6MP, 3x Optical zoom, $299. Pros: Built in Wi-Fi allows you to email pics from camera, 3" LCD, easy use, Kodak color and quality. Cons: Unless you want Wi-Fi you can get more camera for your money with something else.
Kodak P850: 5MP, 12x Optical zoom, $299. Pros: Huge zoom, image stabilization, large 2.5" LCD, more advanced / manual features for advanced user, easy use, Kodak color and quality. Cons: Lower, but still good on megapixels.
