I'm going to get my lip pierced in a few weeks. I've already though about this for a year so don't bother telling me not to do it. I know my parents will so hate my lip piercing/me. So, I have a number of ways I can go with this. I can either:
1. Not say anything, and hide it for awhile afterward
2. Not say anything, and not hide it afterward
3. Casually mention something about facial piercings before
4. Tell them outright

I'm kind of leaning toward option #2, but I wanted some other people's opinions. So, what should I do?

I would actually casually mention facial piercings before just to see what type of reaction they give. Like point out one in a magazine or something. Then you'll know how they will react once you come home with it in. Thats when you sit them down and discuss how you've thought about it for a year and that you weighed the pros and cons. Also that it could be your personality and who you are and that it was a proper way to express yourself. As long as you refrain from screaming, I think they will be able to handle anything you say. Even if they are screaming, don't scream back, just talk calmly. They will accept it, just takes time.

First, you do not say how old you are. If you are under 18, you are really taking some big risks in choosing to pierce your lip without your parents' permission. If you are over 18, I suggest option 3 or 4, depending on your relationship with your parents. Hiding the piercing is not realistic, and eventually they will find out. Second, I suggest you discuss lip piercing with your dentist or dental hygienist before making this big decision.

They love you, no matter how many holes you put in your body. To not say anything and just blindside them with it would be insulting their intelligence, and it almost seems confrontational- like you plan to just walk in with it and give them the look that says, "What?" like they shouldn't be shocked- leaving it wide open for a lot of things to be said. I don't know how old you are, but it would probably be better to mention that you plan to do it. If you don't need their permission to do it, it's no big deal, and they may not like it much, but they will get over it. As I said, they're your parents, they love you, and no little hole in your lip will change that.

I had the same problem few years ago. It depends how old u are and if u still live in their house. Cause if u still live in their house it will be hard to hide cause u can't take it out for a couple of weeks. If u are old enough I would just tell them.

If you are only 17 you might not be able to get one. I know here in Illinois you have to be 18 for piercings and tattoo's.

Well, are you old enough to get your lip pierced? And I'd go with telling them flat out. My mom is skeeved out by my tongue piercing, but I'm legal so she can't do anything about it.

I believe your parents have the right to know if you are under age -and you are still living in their home - follow their rules girl. When you get a job and fully support yourself financially/medically and on your own you can do as you please. I suggest you get permission - what happens if the hole in your lip gets infected who's going to fit the doctor bills?

If they know that you are going to do it, let them know that you plan on getting it done soon. If they dont want you to, I feel like it is your choice, its your body. I would do option number 3, then 4 then 2 based on their reaction.
