I have the Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade CD. My computer is currently Windows 2000. The CD is for use only with Windows 98 or ME. Is there any way to upgrade my computer from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Home Edition? If so, please state the least expensive way. Or is there an Upgrade CD for my Windows XP home Edition Upgrade CD that will allow me to have the full-version of XP (instead of the Upgrade Version) without buying the entire CD?

Although Microsoft support a direct upgrade to Windows XP from Windows 2000 or NT 4.0, the process has a few bugs of its own (but not as many as an upgrade from Win9x) If you can, try to install Windows XP as a fresh install instead of an upgrade. But if you really need to retain all of your application settings, here's what to look out for in the upgrade process.

If you have an upgrade CD you can do a full install using the upgrade disk it's the same as the full version accept the disk checks to see if you have another legal copy of windows such as windows 98 or me.

Good Luck!

Double click on My Computer, once window open up, it will show your drives...If you have a CD burner install or a DVD player install, just put the Window Home Edition in the CD player, then double click on the CD symbol in the Computer window, you can watch the computer download the CD from My computer window, after it finish installing, look for the Set-Up item, click on SET-UP, then follow directions from there...There are some software CD that I buy and I can not install them by just putting it in the CD or the DVD player, then I go to install it manual through MY Computer window...it does work..

I do not know of any way to go from a 98/ME to XP short of buying the full program. The cheapest way I know is to see if you can get a student edition. It gives you the full program at a fraction of the cost. I was able to buy mine from my college for under $15. I bought XP Pro.
