Dogs are like us, only worse. They will be every bit as active as they feel like being. I like the ace wrap idea, perhaps with an adhesive tape over that. If it's mandatory to keep the dog down, then crate him/her. If it's just a sprain, the dog should recoup just fine with minimal intervention.

i cant even begin to think of a solution to that problem. my dog got a real deep cut on the big pad of his paw and wouldnt even refrain from walkin on it. i just had to wrap it in gauze and an ace bandage and watch him closely and change it often. so good luck with that
