This sounds simple, but it's my first time doing this and there are so many choices that it's hard. Have great credit but never had my own card. I travel a lot and am looking for something with miles, or grocery store credit, hotels, SOMETHING. Maybe a website or something that compares the different types, benefits, extras, etc. Suggestions?

Well, rewards programs are plentiful. You need to view what you spend more on before choosing a rewards program. What complicates your situation a little is that your habits fall into major reward program categories (travel, hotel, groceries, etc).

Bankrate.com has an excellent credit card search engine where you input your credit habits (pay of monthly, hold balance, etc) your rewards wishes and it will punch out a list of cards for you. That's a good place to start.

Citibank, Bank of America and Chase also have excellent reward programs available. But you need to look for costs such as fees, interest rates and find the best one.

I think the big question other than what do you want to center your reward on is if you are going to carry a balance on purchases or not. It's worthless to get a 5% rebate on grocery/gas purchases if you are spending 9.9% variable a year (18.25% with prime rate) financing the balance. If you choose to carry a balance, try to get a card with a low, fixed interest rate.

I would also call your bank and see what card programs they offer. Since you have little revolving debt experience with credit cards, banks may be easier since you have an established banking history with them. My bank was the first to give me a credit card when I turned 19 since I had an account with them since I was 12.

Anyways, I hope that helps.

Honestly, I have had the best experience with Chase as far as a credit card service. Do some research, you can find all of the programs on the Major credit companies websites, that way you can pick a program that best suits your needs. Dont be afraid to call them also if you dont completely understand a program.

Do you plan on paying off balance every month & just using it for the points? THen get the one that offers the largest net reward. If you are going to carry balances for long periods, then get one with the lowest interest rate that you can find- the interest savings will make up for low/no rewards. If you may carry balances from time to time, then you are going to have to compare reward/rate/fee structures.

Check out citibank & chase bank. those two probably have every product that you may want to consider.

I have about 6 citibank cards & use them for the rewards. THey are at least as good as every other card that I have seen.
