Hahaha, I was wondering about that myself! Theists get their knickers in a twist about everything....lighten up people!

I am not an atheist and it doesn't bother me, actually I use it myself. (Oh ****, I am sooooo going to burn in hell hahahahaha!)

I don't say it often, but when I do I'm close to tears or in pain. Few people want to mess with me in that kind of mood, so they tend to let it slide. I however, defend my beliefs, and I would probably verbally attack someone should they make some uber-condescending or bigoted comment about my beliefs. People deserve what they get, and frankly, as many theists believe that god controls everything, I am just doing the work of god. God damn all, and to all a good night.

Ooh, ooh! I know this! That phrase is considered blasphemy by many people who believe in God. To have someone who doesn't believe in God say it is really insulting. Will you say it more now?
I have a Jewish friend who likes to say "Jesus F Christ!" to which I can only respond "Holy F Moses!"
Sick, but true. Humans seem to love offending one another.
If you are really an atheist, grow some fortitude and cuss with something you actually believe in.

Because it is written in the Ten Commandments not to use the Lord's name in vain.

Exodus 20:1-17

The Ten Commandments

1 And God spoke all these words:
2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3 "You shall have no other gods before [a] me.

4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.

7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

13 "You shall not murder.

14 "You shall not commit adultery.

15 "You shall not steal.

16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

The name of the Lord so be used with respect, honor, love and with the fear of the God.

Ummmm I don't know. It's others right to speak that way. I prefer to try not to. For Christians it's considered taking his name in vain. It doesn't bother me. My hubby is far from theistic as is my brother in law. I am a Christian, but it is their choice to speak in that way. For some it's offensive. But I can say it's the same reason that a few non religious people or religious people are mean with each other. Go figure.

First, it is "God damn it" that people say, "damn" being short fro damnation. As Gos doesn't damn anything, saying this phrase is a slight on God. He doesn't get upset but some of His followers do.

Remember that He loves everyone and gave His son to save the world from damnation.this includes you.

Anyone that ends up "damned" has done it to themselves and can't blame God!

because you spelled it wrong. basically, because you are trivializing something that shouldn't be trivialized. A name that was so sacred 2000 years ago that people wouldn't dare utter it. If they had to, they would take out the vowels of it, so as not to say the whole thing. So powerful, that by it, miracles were done. The last man who dared to clain it as His own name was executed.

I say only Oh! as there isn't any connection between exclamation and God. Theists say it by way of fact of their prepare from infants. Palam kadakkum vare oh! palam kadannalum oh!

I don't mind it very much. I can see why people would find that disrespectful. If I went around saying "The Beatles were poor musicians" I would expect this would offend many people so I don't say it (also I like their music).

you are taking the Lords name in vain. You are the one will have to answer to him for that. We hate to hear it because God is special to us. It's just like if someone said something awful about your loved one.. You would be offended.
