I'm pretty shy about meeting guys. Is there anything I can do that will help me be less uncomfortable?

Yes. I used to be a really shy guy. I started off slow and worked my way up...try things from the top down

1) Go to a public place and make eye contact with as many people as possible. Try to hold it for 1-2 seconds. As you get more comfortable hold it for 2-3 seconds and smile...just keep walking

2) Same thing, just add a "Hi" and keep walking.

3) Try asking for directions to somewhere close by

4) Comment about something - shoes, hair, the weather, a neat display (whatever) and go from there

5) Just start talking.

The idea is that the more you interact, the more comfortable you get with interaction. Plus, I feel like shyness is not knowing what to say or fear of rejection (or both). The more you talk, the more you know what to say...and when you're talking to 20-30 people a day, the few jerks that reject you don't have so much influence when you've had 25 interesting conversations.

This may sound completely ridiculous to you, but I used to be painfully shy and one day, I just decided I wasn't going to be shy anymore. I started talking to people, sometimes when I didn't really have anything to say. I have annoyed or irritated a lot of people over the years this way, but I am also now an outgoing person who is not afraid of meeting people and I have lots of friends and make new ones easily. It just requires practice. May God bless and keep you.

Hey, I dont know if this helps but considering im a guy and have some exprience the thing that works for me with shyness is setting a time date for my self and holding my self to it. for example i say things like, OK I Will Ask Her Today Before I go home no matter what, and then when i get up to doing it i just dont think about any thing else like what people will say or stuff like that i just think about asking her. if this helps or if you want to talk more my email is lightsabre91@yahoo.com hope it works out. Joe

i used to be shy too.. all the way up to high school..got a liiiittle better in college, but then i moved home and i was shy again. funny thing is, i am really loud and funny and happy when i'm w/ my friends!

sooo... what u have to do, is work on what u are Self Conscious about. do u feel fat, or ugly? exercise, work out, take care of ur body. start playing w/ makeup, find out what makes u look gooood. do ur hair, and buy flattering clothes. do u feel dumb, or that people will not listen when u talk? study hard, learn things, read, check the news, be able to develop ur own opinions, and discuss with people about any topic. start working on maintaining ur relationships... practice being more outgoing w/ friends, close family, relatives....once u start building ur confidence, feeling good about urself, u will be able to talk to strangers w/o feeling as "dumb", or "ugly." :) that's what made me shy.. i felt really ugly. but i knew i was fun, if only people would get to know me. but i'ts hard to get to know people if u are quiet, and are not open and inviting.

work on being a confident, happy, and positive person. that will actually attract confident, happy people around you! and u can leave the negative ones out of the picture...so if u meet a guy, and he's rude, or makes u feel dumb, or ugly, just move on to someone else: he's not worth it. you WANT someone who nice, sweet, interesting, and lifts u up to make u a better person, not makes u uncomfortable and unhappy. now i am very a happy w/ myself.. even tho sometimes i feel fat, or gross..haha.. my bf and i love eachother, and i take care of myself for Him as well as for myself! my happiness makes him happy.... when i feel ugly and sad, it makes him sad. that's why it's important to be happy w/ urself and satisfied, then u can be a good girlfriend and focus on satisfying his needs too.

My best advice for you is, "GET OVER IT!" You just gotta bite your lip and ask a guy out on a date. Start up a conversation and then use a pick up line... even if it's cheesy, he'll think it's cute. Yes, you will get a HUGE rush of adrenaline, but once you do it, it's over (kinda like giving a speech). I was getting sick of lame guys asking me out. Finally I found one that I liked and asked him out on a date... I was nervous, but it ended up being the best thing I ever did. We've been in a relationship for 2.5 years now. IT WAS SOOOOOOO WORTH IT. IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT, GO FOR IT! YOU AREALLY HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!!! If it doesn't work out, it was never meant to be. Don't dwell on it, just GET OVER IT and move on to the next. =)

You need to expose yourself to people on a constant basis. That is how I got over my shyness. I still tend to be somewhat shy but I talk to people when I know that I have to.

WELL. As a girl you are probably not confident in yourself if you're shy. But let's be honest..a guy will do you nonetheless. I personally love shy types. If you just smile at a guy you think is hot, do it. And if he's interested he will talk to you.

yes, looking at urself in the mirror and repeating to urself:
I am pretty, I am strong, I'm confident!! And if that guy doesnt like me, to hell with him, ill meet others!!

to me, shyness s a bonus, but not the exagerated one.
try looking a guy in the eye and im sure ull blush, they usually like that.
If u like a guy ... just SMILE! thats key. it works like a charm everytime!

good Luck!!

I'm shy too. I was told I'll grow out of it. Give it some time. Chances are you're not ready. For everything there is a season.
