I am studying Japanese, and I have a tutor. Well, I will once school starts back. She's in Japan right now visiting family, and I'm not at home for the summer either. I have lots of books, and a dictionary. I would like a better dictionary, if someone knows a really good one (or has used a certain brand, even in another language, that they like).

I would like to suggestions on how I can keep myself interested in learning, and how I can keep some kind of study schedule. I also would like suggetions on how to make learning fun, and how I can help what I learn stay in my head. I don't like learning/ reading something and then not remebering.

Thanks!

Wow! There are so many websites for learning Japanese! I would recommend http://www.thejapanesepage.com/readarticle.php?article_id=2, http://www.japanesepod101.com/,http://www.nhk.or.jp/lesson/ ,http://sp.cis.iwate-u.ac.jp/sp/lesson/j/doc/japanese.html#sentence - these just for starters. Also you should google a free program called Kanji Gold. I also have used the Pimsleur CD programs and while I have not used Rosetta Stone I understand it is good.

I am keeping myself interested by trying to get involved with the local Japanese-America Society and volunteer with local Japanese festivals. Also I frequently go to Japanese markets in my area and read labels.

ok, put the phrases/ words you want too learn on a tape recording.[ along with the translation] record those prases 3,4 times in a row [ spoken slowly and once at normal speaking speed] . then listen to the tape THE VERY 1ST THING IN THE MORNING & THE VERY LAST THING AT NIGHT. and every opportunity you can during the day, especislly while drivng your car. use the phrases as often as you can.. even with people that dont understand... they'll say, "what?" and you can repeat in english if you must...i've been speaking viet namese to my friends for years .. they even picked up a few phrases themselves.. true!
