Because some people confuse the Bible with a historical factual text.
A better question would be why isn't the Odyssey by Homer considered fact. It was written in the same time period, and filled with the same impossibilities, and things we today generally acknowledge as myth.
What is amazing to me is the parts those same people so conveniently ingnore. If it is the one true word, than wouldn't it ALL be true.
Here is one example from Exodus Chapter 21: When a slave-owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished. But if the slave survives for a day or two, there is no punishment; for the slave is the owner’s property.
There are many more like that. Hey - slavery was okay for those that wrote the bible, why not any more???

For some people the Bible is a compiled book of fiction. King James who was a homosexual pagan tried to appease the uprising Christians so he hired a group of philosophers to translate the Bible. You see pagan influence all through the Bible. You also can't be positive of the translation. Many of the ancient religious documents were thrown away as heresy. The only thing in the Bible is what a man by the name of King James wanted in it. Is it the truth? I have my doubts. I think that the Catholic Vatican also had its influence in corrupting the masses with their ideology. I am not an atheist but I have my doubts about the Bible. I think that it is a very pretty book. I think that there are some good Morales and ethics to be found in it. I do not think that a higher God had their hand in the creation of this book. Thank you.

Thats an interesting point, but unfortunately the writings of men several thousand years ago have such a mass following you cant really expect to denounce the Bible as fiction without every tom, dick and harry telling you that is the "only" truth. Faith is a powerful tool.
Personally, I think that if the tellings in the Bible are true, how do we know that what was said wasnt misinterpreted by them and has become Christianity and its various offshoots. Or could Christianity be fundamentally flawed because it was written by man and we all know that man is fallible. But then again, I dont believe a word of what the Bible says. White-washed propaganda. The world was covered in water for 40 days and 40 nights and only Noah was good enough to be saved for one thing. And I thought God was merciful... oh but he is in Chapter ____. Pick and choose when it suits. O.o
^ slight rant, apologies.

Because outside sources, including the Romans, authenticate at the very least the New Testament. Science has proven the earth is not millions of years old but only 15 thousand or so, fitting with the Bible. There is no proof of evolution but there is for the Flood.

The Bible is the only book that has hundreds of prophecies which have been specifically fulfilled. The truth is, archaeologists often use the Bible as a guide as they hunt for historical discoveries, as it has been proven over and over to be very accurate. See for example the magazine Biblical Archaeology Review.

Christianity is a faith. Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is being SURE of what we hope for and CERTAIN of what we do not see." That's why we know plus I was a "Christian" and when people said they could see God working in their lives I thought it was BS but now that I am a real Christian I can see it too. For example, the bible really does come alive in my life. Call me a nutcase or say I use it as a crutch but that's what I believe and I don't care what you think about me

J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the Lord of the Rings, as fiction.
Many people wrote the books and source material of the bible. That doesn't make it "automatically" fiction.
Here's a thought: if you were to be convinced of some historical documents accuracy, what would YOU require to convince you?

Because they put the lord of the rings in the fiction section. They knew not of these concepts 2000 years ago. But really how could you categorize the Bible. Is it fiction, romance, horror or mystery?

There is nothing that can prove the claims and stories of the bible, so Lord of the Rings makes about as much sense.

The earliest New Testament books we have are the Pauline Epistles, which were written well after the time of Jesus. Though the gospels have credibility in some areas, their veracity is highly debatable in others.
