I have a one bedroom apartment and share with my daughter. The room is huge, maybe 20x15, and I would like a functional room divider. Any ideas?

The dividers that the other person mentioned are good, and instead of getting several of those to go across the room, consider some large silk plants (ficus at Wal-mart are very reasonable) and maybe even just divide the room up with the furniture. I don't mean use furniture as a wall, but make two distinctly functioning spaces. A couch with it's back to one area and perhaps a sofa table behind it does a good job with this.
Best of luck!

I purchased some cheap, unfinished 6 foot tall bookshelves and left them open facing the general area. We placed colorful books, decorative planters, and teapots on the shelves. Then we hung large Indian scarves (sheer with sparky stuff woven in) from the top of the bookshelves to the ceiling over the bed, basically creating the vision of a wall and ceiling, even though you could hear everything there anyway. This was just a private bedroom. On the walls on the inside, hung up rugs, to deaden noise.

How about building a divider that you could cover with fake brick or stone sheets. With a little more work you could turn this into a bookcase by using shelves for books, knick knacks, etc. Make the top suitable for a planter and depending on light use tall & hanging plants or fake plants. You could also install a plant light to help the plants and make it a nice focal point.

Good luck

A row of plant and flowers surrounding a long and thin fish tank. That way no matter what side of the room your on, you have something nice and interesting to look at.

If you could get ahold of some kind of table thats long, but not too wide, that would be great. you could load it up with the plants and tank.

well, you could actually hang large curtains from the ceiling and divide the room that was. Or have large bookcases. Check out www.ikea.com, and get some ideas for shelves.

Try a bookshelf or a wall unit. Curtains make it look like a hospital.
