HOW DO YOU FORGET THERE IS A CHILD IN THE CAR?!?!?!

It's a reminder that it takes a village to raise a child. Someone knew that mom was dumb as hell before this happened and didn't say or do anything (I'm not completely blaming them, but everyone needs to stand up for kids). People should stop being afraid to step in when they see something going wrong. You don't need a license to be a parent, so any and everyone's doing it. These parents may not be mean or bad people, just ignorant.
Next time I see some stupid stuff going on, I will think of these stories and step up/speak up to possibly prevent another child tragedy.
All parents need education-sadly, some more than others.

Sad, isn't it. I see these news reports and it just makes me cringe. I can't imagine ever leaving a child in a car - even if the temps are mild! There are way too many pedophiles and the like running around out there as well. My daughter's 12 yrs old now, and I still, to this day, do not like to leave her in the car alone. I don't mind running in to pay for gas now that she's older, but other than that, I'd just rather she come along....it takes only a second to buckle and unbuckle. So what if you're running in the grocery for a gallon of milk...!! Kids don't need to suffer for an "adult's" selfishness.

What about the people who leave them in cars and the cars get stolen?Ft.wayne, IN.

I sometimes think we need to make every women in America take some sort of parenting class before she is allowed to take her child home from the hospital. It's not like their has been only one case of children dying in vehicle's it almost every other week you hear of a child left to dye. Strapped into the carseat while mom or dad runs into Walmart just to pick up an hours worth of grocery's.

I think it's the way for defective people to do things which will decrease the likelihood of their growing to maturity and reproducing. Unfortunately, we have a society which encourages and protects the stupid and the weak, e.g. welfare, prisons, public housing.

Perhaps we should institute a more efficient capital punishment system, which mandates a time limit on leaving the prisoner alive, and speeds up trials so they don't fritter away time and tax money on appeals. Neglect of that order should be punishable by death.

personally, it makes me want to vomit. here's one for you about how people just mind their own business:

when my twins were infants - less than a year old - my husband and i were coming back from an hour's drive. we were in separate cars. both kids were asleep - one in each car. for some reason, my hubby needed to stop at the hardware store, so we both drove there and parked - headlight to headlight, one spot over from each other. he ran inside - leaving the window down. my sleeping son in the other car was perfectly comfortable in the weather. my window was also down. i got out of the car and sat on the hood to have a cigarette.

people started coming out of the store. at first i found it a little humorous when folks would look in the car aghast that someone would leave a baby in the car. then they would just walk away. i couldn't believe it. i counted 17 people who simply walked away.

finally, one woman and her mother saw my son sleeping and about had a fit (finally!). she walked around the car and started writing down the license plate number. i didn't want her to get too worked up, so i spoke up and said that was my child in the car. she didn't believe me, so i went over and used my key to lock and unlock the car door. then i walked to my car and did the same. i didn't start either car for fear of waking the boys. i explained the situation to her and that i was watching each child carefully. i thanked the woman and her mother for caring enough to start to report the situation. i'd told her that 17 people had seen my baby sleeping in an OPEN car and did nothing about it.

disgusting.

I have never understood that. There have been times that I wouldn't pick my husband up from work because I would've had to stop for gas (at three in the morning) and I wasn't about to wake up three little ones to run in and pay for the gas.
People that do that amaze me. Maybe we should lock them in their cars in the middle of the desert and see how they like it.
