It's okay. The language is a little weird, sort of flowery or something, it's hard to describe. You definitely described her appearance too much, so maybe take a little of that out. And I think that the prologue was really rushed. One day, her mother's fine, the next, she comes home and there's a doctor there, and her mom like dies 20 seconds later. So slow down a little bit and it will be great. I really like what you have of chapter one so far, no criticisms there.

What program are you using to make the calendar? Most of them have clip art.. and I'm pretty sure that that will be amongst them.

Why not invent your own -- straight lines, pitched roof, etc. pretty easy. You can also google 'free clip art' and download a B/W one.
