I have the best papillon ever, he's 4 years old and the smartest & most loyal dog I've ever met! But, he is very jealous. He doesn't like me watching the ducks, squirrels, or birds around my house. (For instance, if I say "oh, look at the baby ducks!" he'll start howling & barking).

I have a friend who has papillon puppies & I desperately want one, but I don't think he'll allow it! I know he wants to be the "king" of the house, but doesn't he want a little friend (esp. if it's a girl?)

Anyway w/ experience in this area?
also: 2 years ago (when he was 2y.o.), I babysat my best friend's chihuahua mix for one night. Let's just say no one slept the whole night. My papillon screamed, whined, barked, cried, wouldn't eat, wouldn't sleep, just basically raised hell until the other dog was gone. (and then after he left, he sniffed around the house for hours to make sure)

Thanks for the response on my Terriers Trash Troubles... one thing that you might try on yours that doesnot seem to work on mine to to assert your position as the pack leader when other animals are present. it may hurt Papillons feelings for a bit but after a while it will become commonplace to exist with other animals. As I said, this hasn't worked for my dog, Pepper, because we allowed her to assert herself as pack leader in the house. my mistake... now we have to find alternate ways to train her.

It sounds like your dog is VERY spoiled and doesn't respect you. He thinks he's the pack leader. The first thing you should work on is changing that...enroll him in obedience classes.

I'd say your dog has already given you the answer. Don't get another pet while you have him, unless you want endless fights and squabbles and misery!
