I don't think you ever really get over it. Gradually you will stop thinking about it but you will always miss them. My dog died 2 and a half years ago, I still miss her.

I'm sorry. I've lost a dog before, too. It has been a while for me. Well, I thought of it this way: It's sad thinking about her, but then again, I never want to forget her. Since I can't have it both ways, just remember her, and of course sad feelings will come, but also remember how there's nothing you can do about it now, and that you were happy with her....
I do think getting a new dog will help, so long as you realize and accept that the new dong is definitely not a replacement. If you loved your first dog, just think how much you'd love another, and how many dogs get euthanized each year because they don't have families. I got an abused dog a while back, and he's still very quiet and scared, but he's definitely much happier and has gained some weight. Good luck, and sorry about your loss!

You simply take one day at a time . I know it hurts really bad , but the pain will lessen as time goes on . I dont agree with the theory that if you get another dog real soon that it will take away the pain . But if you do get another dog, you have to remember not to compare the dogs because each dog unique , they may look the same but they have different personalitys . And think about the good times you shared , they can be a comfort .

My 17 year old Cocker Spaniel died almost two years ago and I still miss him a lot. He was part of the family and I'll never forget Okie. However, I remember what a wonderful friend he was and I know that I was always good to him so I'm able to have sweet memories. I honor his memory by being just as good to my Pom and enjoying her with the realization that one of us will someday lose the other.

Know that you will see your dog (and any other deceased animal) when you pass away. If you took care of your dog the best you could that's all any animal could as for.
You will always love and miss your dog, but maybe it's now time to adopt another one. Obviously you still have much more love to give and some little fellow out there could use the care.
I understand and dread the day when my Dog-child departs.

i dont know, it can take along time to get over a much loved pet. Visulize her in "doggie heaven" chasing cats and sheep (cats love it there too and sheep) It has beautiful green grass and blue sky with fluffy white clouds and do is happy. Then what i used to do was get a helium filled balloon. sometimes they give the away at shops or pubs. And id write my special message on it from me and my children. Then wed let it go and watch it go all the way up to doggie heaven!

even 4 years later I still miss my babygirl. The pup was in your life and a part of it and will always be a part of your heart. Don't worry about getting over the death, just remember the pup and your good times.

You will never get over losing your dog, but if you do get another dog you will love it just the same, I have lost 3 cats and one dog over the last 3 years and it still hurts but they are a part of me and i will never forget them, i have two other cats now, i know they will never take the place of my other pets but i love em just the same

I just recently lost two puppies, both of them stole my heart. I just remember the good times and the little things they used to do that made them special to me and my husband. I also went out and got another puppy for us, and even now we laugh and look at our new puppy and say 'Our puppies used to do this too.' and it's great. It doesn't stop me from missing them though. I still cry when I seriously think bout them and what sort time they had with us.

your doggie died? I'd get another doggie. I missed my doggie for a long time. I got a new little puppy and he grew on me and now I love him too. I only think of my other doggie fondly but I don't miss him as much at all.
